Happy New Year!
Hello! This post is going to be a long & chatty post about where my head has been over the past few months & what I’m hoping this new year will bring. A lot has been happening & a lot of change is on the horizon that I want you all to be a part of. I’m so excited to finally be sharing what been on my heart & mind as of late. I feel like I haven’t posted on here in quite some time & it feels like I have been keeping secrets from you guys just by not sharing bits of my life. (haha) No more secrets. I’m ready & excited to share.
I’m starting this year off by focusing on one core word for 2020. I’ve never done this before, but it’s like this word found me & I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. My word for 2020 is reset. Honestly I didn’t realize it until the word was placed right in front of me, but I was/am in need of a major reset–body, mind, soul, home, health, faith, routine…everything!
Home Reset
Ben & I have already made some great progress on our home reset. We deep cleaned our couch, painted our dining table & chairs, hung some new art, & purchased our first orchid. It’s amazing how cleansing it feels to make a few small changes around the house.
Since we are on the topic of home, I also want to mention my house cleaning goals for 2020, but really just for my future. We bought a new vacuum that has totally changed our lives. Living in a household with 3 pets means there is hair everywhere & always. We used to sweep about once a week, but then every day after that was–well, hairy. Our new vacuum is cordless, so lightweight, & is mounted on the wall for easy access so that we can use it every single day. The house has never felt more clean & it’s amazing how much a clean house can alter our mood. Waking up to a clean house & coming home from work to a clean house are things I want to continue to do throughout the year.
Body Reset
As far as my body goes, it told me it needed a reset by presenting pain in my foot. I’m currently waiting to hear the results from my MRI, but hopefully it’s nothing too bad & that I caught whatever it is early enough that I will be back to dancing soon. Either way, I know I will be stronger & healthier after all of this. This pause from ballet has given me the time to plan meals that are clean & healthy as well as to re-imagine my workout regiment. My body is feeling so strong in a new way & my abs have never been so sore. Choosing to look at all of this with rose colored glasses on & with a heart of gratitude. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing what my new workout looks like!
Fashion & Blog Reset
I got into a bit of a fashion blogging rut towards the end of 2019 because I had set too many rules for myself. My mind had already decided exactly what “feminine fashion” looked like, & I didn’t allow myself to stray or experiment with anything else. But why does “feminine fashion” have to look a certain way? Fearless, feminine fashion can be anything you want it to be. My fashion reset means getting rid of the rules I have set for myself & my closet. (Rules like: no black, only skirts & dresses, etc.) Ready to feel free to create new looks for this year with a new sense of what feminine fashion means to me.
As for my blog, I’ve decided that fewer posts with more content in each post is how I want to approach this year. I want to create quality content that is both inspiring & thought provoking. 2020 is about not fitting the mold of other fashion blogger, but really being me. I don’t know exactly what that looks like yet, but I’m excited to find out & continue to build this amazing community.
“Me” Time Reset
I have a lot more “me” time lately because of Ben’s job, therefore I’m trying to really take advantage of that time & do things that my heart really loves. One dream I have for my future is to open a flower shop from my home, so I want to use this time to really practice & get creative with floral arrangements. I’ve done the florals for 2 weddings now & I am totally in love with the entire process. This summer I have 2 more wedding I’m doing the flowers for & I can’t wait to share photos of the finished products & some behind the scenes work. Get ready to see a lot more flora on Felix & Flora this year.
Last year, I set a goal to read a book a month & well…that didn’t happen. This year I just want to make an effort to read about topics I’m passionate about. On my current list I have Bringing Up Bébé, Jesus Feminist, & Styling Nature: A Masterful Approach to Floral Arrangements.
I also really want to lean into crafting this year. If you haven’t seen in my Instagram stories, I have been dabbling in painting with watercolors. It has been such a fun process & I’m learning a lot. Seems silly but I’d love to get really good at using watercolors, so I want to practice a lot this year. Along with painting, I’ve also been getting into bullet journalling. Shayda Campbell is so talented & has gotten me totally hooked on both watercolor painting & bullet journalling via her YouTube channel. Go check out her videos & prepare to get crafting!
Final Thoughts
I’m at a place of deconstruction when it comes to my faith at the moment. It’s still a part of my life that I hold very dear, but I’m figuring out what it means to me today. I’ve been taught exactly what to believe & what to think about certain topics from those in authority around me my whole life. Now I’m finally at a place in my life where I feel like I can step back & assess where I truly stand as an adult & what I want to stand for going forward. Deconstruction is a process, but one I want to fight for this year. Anyone else going through this at the moment? I’d love to chat with you or open a dialogue with this community.
Living with less waste is a huge goal for me this year. Researching more about sustainability, reusable products & just being aware of the effect we have on the world is something I will be work hard towards in 2020. What are some ways you are doing this already? I would love your suggestions!
Lastly, Ben & I want to make more of an effort to save money this year. We would love to go on some fun vacations together & eventually buy or even build a house in the future, so 2020 will be a year of major saving.
This Dress!!
I was kindly sent this magical dress! See me wearing it on their website here! Also, during this shoot, people were singing out “Let It Go” to me! So much fun.
