A Girl On The Go

As I’m writing this post, I’m currently out of town. I traveled to my hometown of Oklahoma City to see my sister’s high school graduation. When I was packing my things I realized that I consistently travel with the same handful of skincare products that I swear by. Each & every product I choose to travel with serves a unique & specific purpose in my skincare routine. Traveling has a way of really throwing off my skin’s groove, but with the help of these lovely products, I’m able to remedy any skin situation that gets thrown my way.

Why These Products?

The Glossier Milky Oil & travel-sized Milky Jelly Cleanser duo is my very favorite way to remove my makeup & cleanse my skin while traveling. These products do a great job of removing all of my makeup as well as nourishing my skin from the natural wear of traveling. If I start to feel any breakouts forming, I quickly use my Solution to stop it in its tracks & give my skin a refresh. This product is a life saver! After this chemical exfoliant, I like to use a moisturizing overnight mask. I’ve been using this for years & I keep coming back to it because of just how good it is.

Typically, I prefer to not use the same products on my face night after night. For this reason, I brought another skincare routine combo that is perfect to travel with. I mix in a few drops of the Pixi Rose Oil Blend with the Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins for the perfect tone & nourishment my skin completely loves.

My Secret Weapon

As I mentioned before, I’m currently out of town & using these products on the daily. I have to give a special shout out to these overnight eye masks. The VIIcode O2M Oxygen Eye Mask For Dark Circles are a must have in my skincare travel essentials kit. My sister & I used these last night & we both swear that not only did they do wonders for any puffiness & dark circles under our eyes, but we actually slept better! They feel so cool & soothing on the skin, making me ready for a great night’s sleep. For an extra bonus, when we woke up, we sprayed our eyes with the VIIcode eye spray. This product is a spa-like treatment that is so refreshing & stress relieving. A combo such as this is like bringing my own spa with me wherever I go.

The Most Photographed Day Of Your Life

On my wedding day, I knew the look I was going for. I wanted to look like me, but the very best version of myself. Since I have makeup, I know my face, & I’ve watched enough YouTube to have at least a minor degree in makeup application, I decided to do my own makeup on the big day. But this wasn’t my first go at bridal makeup – or my last! Over the past couple of years I’ve had the pleasure of doing bridal makeup & bridesmaid makeup for a handful of weddings. I am by no means an expert, by I have learned so much & I have been wanting to share this with you for some time now. With wedding season upon us, let’s talk bridal makeup tips.

Top Tips

When I envision bridal makeup, I see glowing skin, flattering lipstick, bright eyes, & a sculpted face. Make sure you use a concealer that’s slightly lighter than your foundation & don’t only use it under the eyes. Take it down the center of the face from the center of the forehead to the chin. Doing this helps uniform the look as well as brightens up the center of the face.

Use a good contour. I’m totally smitten by the Charlotte Tilbury Contour & Highlight Wands & I recommend them to every bride. They just work, it’s as simple as that! I use this brush to blend in the contour & my beautyblender to blend out the highlight.

I’m not sure if this is a tip necessarily, but I do not recommend using false lashes on your wedding day unless you use them on a daily basis already. Not because I’m not comfortable putting them on, because I wear them for shows all the time, but because they don’t look natural on me. On the most photographed day of my life, I want to truly look like myself. If you don’t think your lashes curled with mascara will be enough, I would recommend getting a lift or extensions for the wedding over applying false lashes.

My Must-Have Products I Use On Every Bride

For foundation, every bride’s skin will require something unique to them. I always mix in a drop of my Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in the shade, Moonlight, to whatever foundation the bride chooses. My go-to concealer for brides in actually the concealer I use every day – the Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Concealer. To highlight the center of the face, I sweep a nice layer of shades from my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Those powders are pure magic on the face.

I’ve played around with looks from so many different eye shadow palettes, but I’ve found my bridal holy grail. The Urban Decay Naked2 Palette will forever be my go-to for brides. My favorite colors are Tease in the crease, Snakebite to darken up the outer v, Bootycall all over the lid, & Chopper on the outer half of the lid for a bit of warmth & shine.

For bridal lipstick, I would have to recommend using either YSL or Charlotte Tilbury products. On my wedding day, I layer two YSL lip products on my lips (shade 11 & shade 70) & I absolutely loved how fresh & feminine it looked. Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks have mad staying powers & always seem to wear off so well! Even the non-matte K.I.S.S.I.N.G. lipsticks last for so long & look amazing. You can’t go wrong with either of these brands.

Ready For A Fresh Face

Over the past five years, my love for makeup has grown & grown. I love reading reviews on how good a product’s formula is, if it’s long lasting, or if it has any skincare benefits, to find the best of the best products out there. My collection ranges from more high end beauty products to some of the most affordable & amazing products on the market. I’m so excited to share with you my very favorite, tried & true, best affordable makeup products.

A Good Base

It’s so important to start with a solid base when applying makeup. So many of my very favorite makeup base products come right from the drugstore. To start, I like to use the Almay Anti-Aging Smart Shade tinted moisturizer. Not only does this product have anti-aging properties, but it also has SPF 20 & does not break me out. It’s so easy to use. I just apply it with my hands like a moisturizer. Then I go with my ride or die concealer by Maybelline. Lastly, the Maybelline Fit Me matte pressed powder is key for a cake-free, flawless looking face.

Make It Multipurpose

The secret to a fresh, cohesive face is to let your already affordable products, be multipurpose products. My favorite look at the moment, uses 3 face products as eye products. I apply my Physician’s Formula Bronzer to bronze my face, as well as the crease color for my easy eye look. Then I use my Milani Luminoso Blush on the apples of my cheeks & then as a wash of color on my eyelids. To finish the eye look & brighten my face, I use an old favorite highlighter, Colourpop’s Wisp, on the high points of my cheek bones as well as in the inner corner of my eyes.

Don’t Forget The Lips!

It’s so much fun to play around with inexpensive lip products. This is a great way to test out new shades that may be a little bit out of your comfort zone. Drugstore & affordable lipsticks are great for building your collection & figuring out what shades really suit you. One way to make your more affordable lipsticks look more luxury is to layer them in order to create more depth to your look. My favorite affordable combination right now is to first apply a layer of the Maybelline matte shade called “Lust For Blush”, then to swipe on a coat of the L’Oreal lipstick in the shade “Peach Fuzz”, which has more of a sheen to it. I love playing with a mixture of warm & cool tones to create my own unique shade.

6 Steps To Spring Style

6 Steps To Spring Style

In Bloom

Spring, my favorite season, is in full swing & my heart is so happy. My garden is finally looking alive again & seems to be changing everyday! I’m keeping track of it on my Instagram so if you’re interested in seeing a bit of it, watch the highlight, “Our Garden”. Just as my garden is changing with this lovely weather, so is my wardrobe. Today I’m sharing 6 steps to spring style I use when choosing my outfit each day.

Choosing A Color Palette

When deciding what I want to wear each day, I start with the color. My favorite way to choose what color to wear is by thinking about what I’m most excited to see outside in nature that day. For instance, if the sun is out & my yellow roses are blooming, I’ll probably be wearing yellow. Or if the sky is clear & blue, like it was on this day, I’ll wear my favorite bright blue shades. Connecting the colors you wear to what’s inspiring to you outdoors is the best way to have the perfect spring color palette in your wardrobe.

Pile On The Florals

This time of year, you can find me wearing at least one piece of florals on the daily. Whether it’s a dress or skirt like the one I’m wearing, or a floral pair of shoes, earrings, or bag, florals are something I just can’t resist. Wearing at least one piece with floral details really sets the tone for a spring look. But why not pile them on? Try mixing floral prints, & if this seems a bit scary for you, I promise you this post I wrote last year will help you feel like a pro.

Bright Accessories

While I do love color, bright white accessories are my go-to during the spring. They help brighten any & every look. The best part is they match literally any color you could wear this spring. So when you’re looking to invest in a new pair of statement earrings, choosing a bright color is always fun, but choosing a bright white in a fun shape like these bows I’m wearing, will ensure you will get the best cost per wear.

All About The Sleeves

Sleeve details that make interesting silhouettes are my secret weapon when it comes to creating the perfect spring look. Think ruffles, balloon sleeves, & smocking. For this look, even though both my skirt & my sleeves are a bit oversized & exaggerated, the top fits snug around my body to still gives me a flattering shape.

Add Texture

The very best way to add a bit of texture to your spring outfit is by pairing it with your favorite woven, wicker, or rattan pieces. Whether it’s a bag, a great pair of woven shoes, or some raffia earrings, this small detail brings warmth & life to an outfit. I just did a whole post on this topic, see it here.

A Fresh Face

You’re never fully dressed without a fresh face & a smile. A great fresh spring face first begins with good skincare (see these 4 skincare items I can’t live without!). It’s so important to invest in your skin & really take care of it well. The more you take care of your skin, the less makeup you’ll feel like you need to wear. A few key items to my fresh face include my Jouer Luminous Moisture Tint, the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk blush, & my favorite nude lip.

The Ballerina In Me

My love for ballgowns, princess dresses, & sparkle runs deep to my core. As a professional ballet dancer, I’m lucky enough to wear beautiful princess costumes quite frequently. In my normal life though, one of my favorite ways to live out my princess dreams is by wearing tulle. This dreamy fabric can be found in styles to suit both evening attire & everyday essentials. That’s right! If you don’t already have one, get yourself a tulle skirt to feel those princess vibes on the daily!

The inspiration for the title of this post came from the lovely Camellias behind me in the photos. Did you know that The Lady Of The Camellias was first a French book? Later it was made into a lovely ballet which I would love to perform someday.

Putting This Princess Look Together

I wore this amazing tulle dress to Richmond Ballet’s annual gala. Back in the early fall, I fell hard for this dress. It was a little bit more expensive then what I wanted to pay, & it just so happened that my size was out of stock. I kept in in my wishlist though just because I loved it so much. Then right before Thanksgiving, I saw that my size was back in stock, so I set my alarm for 2 AM (I had heard that’s when the sale was starting) & bought it during the Black Friday sales. It was a steal!

For accessories, I re-wore some bits from my wedding day. I wore my wedding earrings I got from BHLDN & would you believe that my headband was actually my belt I wore at my wedding reception?! It was so special to wear these beautiful pieces again. My pearl bracelet was a wedding gift from my parents that tied in so perfectly with the small pearls on my headband & my super affordable pearl clutch. My shoes were a pair of silver metallic heels (old, similar here) that were low enough to be quite comfortable to be on my feet & dancing for much of the night. I truly felt like a ballerina princess.

My Makeup

For my eyes, I wore dreamy pinks & cool tone browns to resemble the color of my dress. Really, I looked through all of my palettes to find colors that slightly resembled the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk eyeshadow quad which is currently at the top of my wishlist. Matte shadows in the crease, a little shimmer on the lid blended out to create a soft smokey eye.

I was not originally going to wear a red lip. It happened very last minute. Lustre very kindly lent me a gorgeous ruby & diamond bracelet to wear to this event (see photos on my “ballet” Instagram story highlights), so I wore a red lip to match the rubies. I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous to wear this bold red lip to an event in which I would be eating & drinking & talking all night, but this combination was incredible! I didn’t have to touch up once & it lasted the entire evening. First I lined & filled in my lips with the Jordana Easyliner for lips in the shade Sedona Red. Then I applied my favorite red lipstick, So Marylin by Charlotte Tilbury. That was it! I was shocked at how good it still looked at the end of the night. If you’re looking for a great long lasting red lip look, this is the winning combo.

My Skin Transformation

Growing up, I always had acne. I washed my face every single day without fail, used acne treatments & oil-free makeup, & did everything I knew to do in order to dry up my skin. At the time, I didn’t realize the excessive drying of my skin probably did more harm than good. It took me years to realize that even though my skin is more oily, it still needs moisture or else it will just keep producing more & more oil.

Once my mind was open to applying moisturizer & even oils to my skin, I jumped into the skincare pool head first on my hunt to find the best products. I started learning more about key ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, & rose oil & over time, saw the lasting effects they had on my skin. It’s been an incredible journey learning what works & what doesn’t & actually seeing my skin change for the better. I knew I just had to share with you four skincare products I can’t live without.

Four Skincare Products I Can't Live Without

Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner

This beautiful product was actually given to me as a Christmas gift from a dear friend. I had always had my eye on it, but somehow I had never tried it before. This toner does a great job of minimizing my pores while leaving my skin feeling fresh, soft, & moisturized. I treat this product as an extra step on those days I need a little extra pampering. It brightens, tightens, & locks in moisture for the next day.

Priming Moisture Rich

I’m typically not good at picking favorites, but I think this is my very favorite Glossier product. This moisturizer is so decadent & luxurious without being greasy or breaking the bank. I love how it smells not overly fragrant but still quite fresh. My skin always feels refreshed the next day. This is definitely one product I keep repurchasing over & over again.

Super Bounce

Remember my favorite ingredients I mentioned before? This Super Bounce serum has hyaluronic acid to help lock in moisture & plump the skin. I love mixing this in with my Priming Moisture Rich to create my favorite nighttime combo.

Original Skin Mask

Every week or two when I feel as if my skin needs a little pick me up, I always gravitate towards this mask. The rose clay draws out any impurities (without making me breakout), & this mask gently exfoliates the skin upon removal. This refine’s my skin’s texture & boosts radiance. I mean who doesn’t want to look radiant?! After using this mask I apply a generous layer of moisturizing products (aka all the products mentioned above) for a nice spa-like treatment for my face.
