I am so excited to be merging my love of fashion with my love for florals! A great way for me to get in some floral arranging practice as well as experiment with different color combos that compliment my outfits.
I took a poll on Instagram recently, & so many of you wanted to see me styling some wide leg pants. These pink-y, purple-y pants are such a fun addition to any wardrobe for spring. Pair them with either a tighter fitting top, or a flowy top with balloon sleeves fully tucked into the pants. The trick to wearing wide leg pants is really accentuating the waist line. So have fun, be bold, & add a pop of colorful 70’s style into your wardrobe this spring/summer.

Chicwish kindly gifted me this gorgeous cream embroidered dress with tie sleeves that I was so excited to style this summer. As I began playing around with it in my wardrobe, I realized that this dress can actually be worn in EVERY season! One dress to wear in all four seasons. Talk about versatility & definitely getting your money’s worth. See how I’ve styled this classic dress uniquely for each season of the the year.
Yep, this dress even works in winter! I threw this oversized burgundy roll neck sweater over my lovely cream dress & paired it with a few other burgundy accessories. Berets really do add so much warmth in the fall & winter months which is why I have so many colors to wear almost everyday! I wanted to add my check coat to add a bit of structure to the look & tie in with my black box bag that’s one of my winter staples. If you’re worried about being cold in the winter in just a dress, remember you can always add boots, tights, or even fleece leggings underneath!
Dresses are definitely what I feel most comfortable in. They give me confidence, make me feel like such a lady, & bring me so much joy to walk, twirl, run, skip, frolic, & jaunt around in. Ok, so maybe I don’t skip on a daily basis, but I could & doing so in a dress is like living out my childhood dreams. If wearing dresses makes me this happy, then doing so should not be reserved for evenings & special occasions. No, dresses should be worn on the daily, exuding all the lady-like confidence & joy.
Let me share with you what I look for when shopping for day dresses, & how I like to style them for an everyday, casual yet sophisticated look.
A good day dress is a “no fuss” dress, in my opinion. One that I won’t have to worry about revealing too much when I lean forward or bend over to pick something up. It’s comfortable, not tight, & makes you smile when wearing it. I love this classic wrap dress from Chicwish for literally all of those reasons. This dress is comfortable to wear. It’s a nice, no-fuss length, & there is even a small button at the top of the wrap to keep from revealing more than you’d like. I love the subtle & sweet blue & yellow floral pattern with the slightly puffy sleeves. Finding a “no-fuss” dress with great design details such as these ensures you’ll wear it with ease over & over again.
Styling day dresses looks slightly different depending on the current season, but the same principles apply. For shoes, a classic ballet flat is a great year-round choice. In the fall & winter, you could also pair your day dresses with a pair of knee high boots, loafers, or oxfords. Choose the pair that will be most comfortable for your daily activities while still adding to that feminine, boss babe vibe.
A great bag like this embroidered brown bag I can’t stop wearing, is an ideal bag to have in your collection. It can be worn year-round & has that same “no-fuss” feel as your day dress. There are no zippers that get stuck, contraptions to maneuver, just a simple snap under the buckle for easy opening & closing. It also comes with a gorgeous embroidered crossbody strap for when you need to be hands-free!
Accessorizing your day dress should be minimal & casual, yet strategic & cohesive. Adding one simple hair clip adds a bit of interest to your look while also keeping the hair out of your face. Functional & fashionable! For earrings, I say go as big as you want! I love these pearl drops for a bit of intrigue & design detail while still being very minimal. Pair with your favorite everyday lipstick & a fun pair of sunglasses & your look is complete!
A couple years back, I visited Burnside Farms durning the spring for their annual tulip festival. It was gorgeous & I MUST go back again this next year. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to go during their sunflower season because all the pictures I have been seeing on their Instagram have been giving me major FOMO. Yesterday, Ben & I finally got to take a little road trip up to see the gorgeous sunflower fields. To say is was dreamy would be an understatement. Plus, we went on a Tuesday afternoon so there weren’t many people there. We had such a fun time & even got to cut & bring home a few sunflowers as well.
On the drive home, we could not stop talking about how much fun we had in the sunflower fields. We loved walking through the classic sunflower fields & taking photos, but then we also saw some lovely white & burgundy sunflowers as well! Of course, we had to bring home a few of each color. They had chickens & turkeys on site as well which were thoroughly entertaining. I couldn’t help but think that one day when we have kids, we have to bring them back to see this. How much fun will that be?!
This was such a cute outfit to wear to the sunflower fields because the red & white really stand out against the flowers. Yesterday was my first chance to wear this dreamy long white skirt & I already can’t wait to wear it again. You may remember seeing it in a recent Sunday Try On where I mentioned that I had been looking for the perfect long white skirt for such a long time & this one is even better than I was expecting. It’s so light & flowy & is not see through either! An effortless white skirt like this is one is one I know I will wear for many years to come.
Summer is in FULL swing, am I right?! It’s times like these when you want to just live in shorts & a tank top to at least be “comfortable”, right? I’m totally with you. So what happens when you want to look cute for a party, a lunch, a trip to the grocery store, or whatever the occasion may be? Let me share with you my tips on how to dress cute on hot summer days without compromising on the comfort level.
Let’s go back to that original, hot day outfit of shorts & a tank top. Seriously the best & most comfortable thing to wear in the heat besides a bikini. To boost the cute factor but maintain the comfort, let’s re-imagine this look just a bit.
Instead of a pair of athletic shorts or denim shorts, why not try a pair of high waisted, loose fitting shorts in another color or print. Adding some detail, or something out of the ordinary really elevates the entire look. These white shorts I’m wearing are a total Zimmermann dupe & are under $20! Not only are they cute & affordable, but the material is light & super breathable making them super comfortable to wear on even the hottest of days.
If you’re wearing a great high waisted pair of shorts, I recommend pairing it with a cropped tank top. Don’t shy away from cropped tops too quickly because just because they are cropped, doesn’t mean you have to show any skin. Cropped just means it’s shorter than the usual tops, but if you’re wearing high-waisted shorts, the cropped top can meet the shorts perfectly at the waist.
To take it up a notch on the cute scale, find a tank top with interesting design details. This gingham top (similar here) has a classic square neck with ruffled straps & a lovely tie in the back. Tie back tops are so cute & fun to wear this time of year. Whether you go with a tie back top or not, finding a top with details such as ruffles, buttons, bows, etc. will totally up your fashion game.
Don’t Forget The Accessories!
On hot summer days, the last thing I want to wear is a cross body bag. Maybe it’s just me, but I start to feel trapped under there, plus the added sweat. Pass. I tend to gravitate towards top handle or satchel bags for that very reason. This bamboo bag has gotten so much love over the past couple of years & I still just love the way it goes with outfits & is a great conversation piece. The structure & lines of this bag bring so much texture & depth to a look.
Don’t be afraid to have a bit of fun with your sunglasses. Try a fun new color or shape & just rock them.
Lastly, wear a hat. Most likely, if it’s hot & you’re outside, that means the sun is out. Look cute & protect your face with a nice straw hat. If it’s too hot to wear your hair down, wear it in a low pony with the hat like I did here.
