The Dreamiest Gal Meets Glam Collection

I have been a long time fan & follower of Julia Engel of GMG. Her feminine, classic style has inspired countless women around the world. Last year, she launched the Gal Meets Glam Collection & each month she produces some of the most gorgeous & well made dresses on the market today. Though the collection started out with only dresses, she has also brought out jumpsuits, jackets, scarves, matching sets, & sweaters. I’ve even hear rumors of coat coming out this fall/winter!

Since their launch last year, I’ve acquired 3 of her dreamy dresses which I absolutely love to death. They are just out of my budget most days, but worth the splurge for a special occasion. (See them here, here, & in this post)

This post is all about my total crush on the Gal Meets Glam Collection. See the designer pieces I’m currently swooning over & find out ways to get the look for less.

How To Get The Designer Look For Less

Gal Meets Glam is all about the romantic florals, the classic & vintage silhouettes, & feminine details like ruffles, bows, & buttons. Retailers are catching on to her timeless style & I love finding pieces that feel inspired by her style.

This dress that I’m wearing I actually bought during the LikeToKnow.it Day sale. The best way to get the designer look is to actually get the designer pieces. Her dresses frequently go on sale on her site, but some can also be found on Anthropologie & Nordstrom, so when their sites have sales (like Nordstrom is having now – see my edit here), her gorgeous pieces also go on sale.

If you have not heard of Julia or her dresses before now, check out her Instagram here. Hear about me gushing over her gorgeous dress I wore to my rehearsal dinner here.

Beauty Seeking!

Lately, I’ve been craving some beautiful & inspiring scenery. Traveling can be so life-giving, & since I’m staying in Richmond this summer, I’ve been determined to find that same feeling right here at home. There are so many beautiful things that surround us daily & I feel so lucky to live in such a cool city. But regardless of where we live, I’ll bet that if we make it our mission to open our eyes to seek the beauty around us, we just might find it. First stop, visiting a butterfly garden!

Our Day Date

When it comes to exploring new places, my favorite travel companion is of course, Ben. Luckily, he had a day off when it wasn’t too terribly hot & it wasn’t raining, so we took a day date to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Our first priority on this trip was to see their “Butterflies LIVE” exhibit, but we also spent hours roaming through the colorful & incredible gardens.

The butterfly garden was totally magical! I saw some of the biggest & brightly colored butterflies I have ever seen. Occasionally, they would land on us which was just one of the coolest things ever! We just stood there, watching, in complete awe of these whimsical creatures flying about, eating, & exploring the garden around them. I was giddy! Since around April I had been wanting to come & experience this place, & it exceeded my expectations for sure.

Dressed For The Occasion

Chicwish very kindly gifted me this dress (which I picked out) & even before receiving it, I knew this was the dress I wanted to wear upon visiting the butterfly garden. It was even better in person & I fell in love (see my initial try on here). The whimsical botanical print is to die for along with the sweet buttons & feminine ruffles, this dress is too cute for words. These earrings matched this dress PERFECTLY!

I decided to go all out with the prints to carry on with my whimsical theme. This cute polka dot scarf tied in a bow on a floral bag…because sometimes more is more!

Halfway through our day trip, Ben & I sat on a bench & we realized that our looks were totally coordinated & were on theme with our surroundings! No doubt, he’s the man of my dreams!

6 Fashion Risks Worth Taking

A Fresh Start

In a bit of a rut with your clothes? I’ve definitely been there! This post is all about inspiring more creativity in our wardrobes & while we shop. Sometimes, all you need is a challenge, or to try something new to spark a bit of joy & inspiration within us. I have 6 fashion risks worth taking to share with you. Getting dressed should be an exciting part of your day. It’s a way to express how you’re feeling & make a great first impression. Let’s get risky!

1. Be Colorful

Around this time last year, I challenged myself to wear more colors. What’s so scary about color anyways? I dare you to wear a bright flippy dress like the one I’m wearing & not smile! No doubt the people around you will smile too. We need a bit more color in our lives.

2. Show A Little Skin

Why not? Show a little leg, a little chest, or wear a backless dress. Having a bit of skin on display makes you hold yourself differently, walk differently, & even act differently. Wear your skin with pride! There is no one else like you!

3. Mix Prints

Nothing excites an outfit more than a bit of print mixing! Whether you’re new to print mixing or you are a long time pro, check out this post to get the creative juices flowing.

4. Over Accessorize

Go big! Don’t be afraid to make a bit of a statement with your accessories. Wear a pair of big earrings, or fun hair clips, or a statement bag. Why not wear them all at once?! Have a little fun & don’t take yourself too seriously. (see my Accessorizing 101 post here)

5. Try Daytime Sparkles

Have a pair of sparkly shoes? Try wearing them during the day! Why not wear a bit of sparkle in your day to day life? Even if it’s a bit of sparkly eyeshadow like this one I’ve been wearing on the daily.

6. Be “Matchy-Matchy”

Instead of mixing prints, why not match them?! Try stripes on stripes, or florals on florals, or even houndstooth on houndstooth. But you can be matchy-matchy even without prints! Go for a monochromatic look like this one or this one.

Hello, July!

Summer is in full swing & it’s hot, hot, hot! If you’re like me, you’re reaching for those easy, breezy pieces to wear & eating plenty of ice cream to keep cool. Plus, the 4th of July is THIS week! I thought I would share with you what I’m wearing this year to celebrate. I also posted my Red, White, & Blue Favorites recently, so make sure you check that out if you need more festive outfit inspiration.

The Dress

This tie sleeve, button front midi dress in red check is literally my 4th of July dress of dreams. It’s made of cotton, making it super breathable & perfect to wear on hot summer days. Not to mention, it’s on sale & comes in 7 different colors & patterns. The only thing I would say about this dress is that the top is a bit snug. I would consider sizing up.

How cute does this vintage looking bow look with this dress? I love the subtle print mixing to create that bit of intrigue in the outfit.

Keeping It Cool

Ice cream is definitely my favorite way to keep cool during the summer months. If you live in Richmond, you have to head to Scoop for some of the best ice cream in the city. I got a double scoop cone with strawberry & sweet basil with was such a delicious combo. The basil took me right back to all the fresh basil we ate while in Italy.

I will say, eating an ice cream cone with a bold red lipstick was a bit challenging, but it was so worth it! How can you not wear red lipstick on the 4th of July?! I’m wearing my favorite red, So Marylin by Charlotte Tilbury, which is my perfect true red.

Summer Trend: Smocking

I don’t know about you, but I love to be comfortable in the summer. On hot days, I don’t want things to be too tight on my body, but I still want to wear flattering pieces. Smocking details do just that! This allows articles of clothing to have a flattering fit while also providing stretch & comfort for easy wearing. I’m totally into this trend at the moment & wanted to share how I’m wearing this trend over the next few months.

My Look

This look is perfect for warm summer days. It’s both comfortable & cute while also being on-trend & affordable. What makes this dress so special is the rainbow smocking details. It’s quite unique & makes a great statement. I’ve styled this dress with a number of different shoes (see here), but you can never go wrong with a classic pair of white espadrilles. Basket bags are all I’m wearing in terms of bags these days. This one, my mother in law sent me from Africa! How sweet! I’ve found a similar one here if you want to get the look. As far as accessories go, I’m wearing these super affordable woven hoops that go with just about everything, & of course, my gold coin bracelet.

Other Ways To Wear Summer Smocking

There are so many ways to wear this summer smocking trend. Try a full smocked dress like this one or a jumpsuit like this one. I’m currently crushing on this amazing set with smocking details. In fact, you can almost guarantee I will be purchasing it after my next payday. This smocked top in lemon print is just so perfect for summer. I’m also curious about wearing a mini skirt like this one. Whichever style you choose, they are sure to be the most comfortable & stylish things to wear all summer long.

Bring On The Warmth

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems as though spring was here for about 3 weeks & now we are in full summer mode. At least here in Richmond, it’s already so hot & humid. Even though summer doesn’t technically start until June 21st, the weather certainly says otherwise. The weather & colors outside greatly affect the outfits I wear on a daily basis. Around this time of year, the sun has a way of bringing out all the warm tones of nature & casting a warm, yellow tint around us. Therefore, it’s easy to see why all I want to wear are lovely, feminine, warm tone pieces. What can I say, I like to blend in with nature!

What’s Not To Love?

This look is basically a compilation of all my current favorite things. First of all, this warm-toned, striped dress is so comfortable & on sale for under $25! I’m in love with the colors, the button front details, & the feminine ties on the sides. When I wear button front dresses that don’t have very full skirts, I like to unbutton a few of the bottom buttons to show a little leg & add more drama.

My blush espadrilles add the perfect touch of warmth & match my dress so well. Espadrilles are my favorite shoes to wear in the summer. They can be both casual & dressy, but they also provide those dreamy vacation vibes I crave on the daily.

My newest basket bag was an obvious choice to pair with this look. I love how the lines on my dress are mimicked by the structure of this bag. This Laura Ashley toile scarf was the perfect accessory to this bag. It’s warm pinky-peach tones are gorgeous & toile is a print I’ve loved since I was a child. I know this will be my most worn scarf of the season.
