Let’s Get Festive!

The weather is definitely starting to get cooler here in Richmond. I had my first hot chocolate last week while picking out our Christmas tree & haven’t stopped drinking them since. It was on that same cold day last week when I told Ben that the first really cold day of the season hits me hard. It’s like I forget how the bitter cold feels every year. But how could I forget?!

Even though it’s getting colder & colder everyday, this season brings about the most parties & events. Which means we need party outfits that will help you stay warm(er) in the cold. This outfit is very festive with a bit of shine & a bow, but it’s pink from head to toe. I love wearing pink for the holidays. It’s a great way to take a break from the red & green all around. Let’s get into all the festive bows & velvet for this holiday season.

More Bows Please

Ever since I was a child, I have loved bows. I used to wear bows in my hair every single day. The bigger the better. Don’t get me wrong, I still love bows in my hair, but now I’ve fallen in love with wearing bows on my clothes, not just in my hair. They are the perfect feminine touch to any outfit.

Bows feel especially festive this time of year. Maybe it’s from seeing all of the presents wrapped up in bows, I don’t know. All I know is my love for bows is through the roof this time of year. Because of this, when I saw this dainty bow silk cami, I knew I would wear it time & time again. I also have recently purchased this amazing pair of bow earrings that I’m literally obsessed with. You just can’t go wrong with a good bow.

Pile On The Velvet

Isn’t velvet just the dreamiest material? It just feels so good! Not only does it feel good, It does a great job of keeping you warm, too. This is precisely why this pink velvet pleated midi skirt is just perfect for the holiday season. It’s so cozy & flattering to wear while also looking fancy & festive. I also paired this look with a pair of pink velvet heels, although I would highly recommend bringing a pair of fuzzy slippers in the car to wear before & after the event.

Inspiration From Across The Pond

I watch quite a lot of YouTube, & funny enough, about 90% of the YouTubers I am subscribed to are living in the London area. What can I say, I love the way they speak?! They also have the best phrases & ways of saying things. I even find myself talking like them sometimes! Anyone else do this too?! Anyways, clearly I feel very inspired by these lovely ladies, & this look reminds me of a combination of them all. (Amelia Liana, Kate La Vie, Samantha Maria, Estée Lalonde, I Covet Thee, In The Frow, Fashion Mumblr, & Freddy My Love)

Re-Imagined

With exception of my faux fur scarf, the items that make up this London look are all items I’ve had in my wardrobe for years. I’ve been working on my creativity lately & have had so much fun re-imagining how I put together pieces that I already own. This process is so much fun to me. All it takes is a small window of time & a spark of creativity (or maybe a glass of wine) to start playing around in your wardrobe. Mix & match different colors, prints, & textures until you find a whole new batch of great outfits from your own closet. It’s like shopping without paying for new things. Re-imagining your wardrobe in this way really gets me excited about my clothes again. It makes me love putting on each & every outfit at the start of a new day. In a fast paced world where trends come & go with each new season, it’s refreshing to own quality pieces that last year after year. My bank account is surely thankful as well!

My London Look

As I mentioned before, this outfit was inspired by my favorite influencers from across the pond. Kate & I have the same gold bow mules, which are an all time fav of mine. She inspired my camel beret as well. The pink coat is a little bit of everyone, but mostly Freddy for her love of all things pink. My leather mini skirt was inspired by Amelia & Josie. Bright colors & cozy faux fur like my scarf are definitely influenced by Samantha. The one item that brings them all together though, is my beloved white top from H&M. It’s maybe my favorite top that I own & could bee seen on each one of my British babes. I’m also obsessed with how they say “H&M”, for the record. (see here & here)

I think that in just the same way that you are the 5 people you are closest to at any one time, your fashion takes on the same vibes as the 5 people’s fashion you are drawn to at any one time. How cool is that? Fashion is influenced by the people & things around us, yet is uniquely ours as well. Go out there & be inspired by fashion bloggers & fashionistas around you, but then make it yours. Be you. Fearlessly be you, & love the you that you create.

Print Mixing For Beginners

Print Mixing For Beginners

Print Mixing For Beginners

Hello Everyone!

Print mixing is an art filled with creativity, imagination, & just plain guts. It’s quite difficult to know at times whether different prints or textures play well together or not. I’m not going to pretend that I am an expert on this topic, but I wanted to share with you some of the things I have learned over the past few years about mixing prints. Maybe you will also like to go on this styling journey with me? We can start as beginners today…& soon become pros…? *fingers crossed*

Print Mixing For Beginners

Top / Skirt / Shoes (sold out! similar here) / Denim Jacket (old, similar here) / Hair Bow (similar here & here) / Bag (old, similar here & affordable option here) / Lipstick (shade Oui!)

Print Mixing For Beginners

First of all, in order to style & mix prints, you must own some. Prints can be quite a scary thing to buy because in the back of your mind, there is that fear that, “It won’t match other things”, or “It won’t get enough wear time to be worth the money”. Trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve also been all the way on the other side of the spectrum where all I did was buy prints…the bolder the better! Now that’s a difficult wardrobe to own. I think it’s best to find some middle ground (& impulse control), & find both prints & non-prints that can fit in your wardrobe seamlessly.

As a beginning print mixer, stripes, florals, & polka dots are where we begin. And with spring just around the corner, what perfect prints to add to your wardrobe (if you don’t have them already!). These prints, for the most part, play well together. The trick is pairing the right size & the right color. As far as size goes, a safe bet is pairing a small print with a large print. In the outfit I’ve styled for this post, I chose a very small printed striped top & paired it with a large floral print skirt. I also could have chosen a bigger striped print top with a small floral print skirt, or a floral top with a striped skirt for that matter.

–  Style tip –

Mix a large print with a small print for easy success.

The next big task: color. Now, you all know your wardrobe & what colors you wear the most. For me, I tend to wear mostly pinks & blues. Sure I have other colors in my wardrobe (thanks to last year’s fashion goals), but while shopping, it’s good to know what color palette I wear the most. It’s easier to integrate prints & patterns that have similar colors to clothes you already own. If the color thing still seems scary, neutral is always a good route to go.

–   Style tip  –

Neutrals are always winners

In this outfit, you remember, I mixed a white top with tiny light pink stripes with a bold green floral skirt. The bright green seems a bit scary & way too colorful for my comfort zone, but the reason it fits in my wardrobe is because of the shades of pink in the flowers. I knew I had enough white & pink shirts that I could pair with this, & it’s bold print was just the styling challenge I was looking for. A classic denim jacket it the perfect neutral jacket to pair with a bold print. A must have in your spring wardrobe.

–   Style tip  –

Know what colors you wear most. Sticking to patterns in this color palette is a sure fire way to have mixing success.

How To Perfectly Wrap Your Gifts This Year

How To Perfectly Wrap Your Gifts This Year

Hello Everyone!

Wrapping presents is one of my very favorite things to do year-round, so when Christmas time comes around, I get giddy with excitement. Today I want to share with you how to perfectly wrap your gifts this year. I love letting my creativity run wild as I plan out color schemes & mood boards for my Christmas wrapping vibes. This year, I went with simple, minimal paper with feminine touches of gold, bows, & sparkles. Adding every small detail gives each gift a personal touch as well as decorates your home while living under your tree until Christmas.

Now grab a cup of hot cocoa (recipes here) & let’s get wrapping!

How To Perfectly Wrap Your Gifts This Year

How To Perfectly Wrap Your Gifts This Year

The past three years, I have used the gorgeous Rifle Paper Co. wrapping paper for my holiday wrapping, & I absolutely loved it. I love Anna’s designs, but I decided to make a change this year because I remembered how lovely Target’s Sugar Paper products were last year. Recently, I went to Target, making a beeline for the Sugar Paper display, & quickly filled my cart with all of the beautiful holiday wrapping things. I decided to stick with red, pink, white, gold, & navy, letting the tree be the only green. The metallic touches to these Sugar Paper products are what really speaks to me. They are minimal, elegant, classy, & still very festive.

Once each gift is perfectly wrapped in paper, now the fun really begins. Adding different colors, textures, & sizes of ribbon helps set each present apart. I love this white ribbon with a gold metallic edge as well as this skinny pink velvet ribbon. For a bigger statement, I pull out the big guns with these large glitter bows that are sure to be show stopping.

For packages that need a little extra something, I will tie on a little gold bell or one of these tiny Christmas ornaments for extra embellishment.

My biggest wrapping tip for you this year is to try to make each gift unique & special. Getting creative, & putting that little extra thought into the presentation of each gift is something your loved ones will cherish & appreciate. Plus, just think of how gorgeous they will look under your tree this whole holiday season!

Holiday Dresses

Hello Everyone!

It’s about that time!

This Blogmas post is all about finding the perfect holiday dress for your upcoming parties & events! Whether it’s a work event, or a holiday date night, finding the right look can help you feel extra confident & festive. As you know, I am a firm believer that pink is a totally holiday color, but a little red dress, a dark green dress, or anything that sparkles & shines is sure to make a statement at your next Christmas party. I’ll show you two of my favorites in my collection & also roundup the best of the best holiday dresses out there right now.

Holiday Dresses

The first dress is this amazing dark green velvet pleated midi dress. This was one of those, you see it & buy it immediately kind of dresses. Once it arrived, & I tried it on, I instantly felt all the old Hollywood glamour vibes & quickly paired it with my art deco t-strapped heels & a bright red lip. My long faux fur stole seemed like the perfect addition to this look.

Velvet dresses are a lovely choice for your next holiday event. This time of year is my favorite time to wear this luxurious fabric. It catches light so well & brings extra warmth which is much appreciated on cold winter nights. I am loving this red velvet wrap dress at the moment, as well as this pink option. *swoon*

Holiday Dresses

Then there’s my very special red dress. I actually bought this dress in Paris this past summer, & it’s one of my most beloved & sentimental pieces in my wardrobe. The bows on the straps are such a sweet touch to this already gorgeous red dress. My fuzzy coat (last seen here) just fits with this dress & brings all the warmth necessary. I just picture it with a bold red lip & a champagne gold sparkly eye. Can’t you just see it?!

Bows are such a fun touch to your holiday look. Try one with a bow back like this one, or this one with a sparkly bow right on the front. It’s the perfect feminine touch.

A Red Moment

A Red Moment

Hello Everyone!

Lately I have been totally inspired my these all red looks ( 1 & 2 ), & have been putting together my own version. I feel a little like Rachel Zoe when saying this, but I was needing “a red moment“.

Having pops of red, or simply putting them all on at once, is such a festive trend this season, & I’m all about it! Pulling off a monochrome look like this is all about layering & mixing your textures. I started off with a simple red sweater dress with a roll neck & paired it with my new holiday red coat. This combo alone  is already so festive, but adding the red faux fur scarf brings a whole new element to this look. The faux fur really breaks up the monochrome without changing color! To finish it all off, I paired this outfit with these super sweet red bow heels that are quickly becoming my new favorites.

I thought about adding a pair of red sunnies to my red moment look, but I decided that these black cat eyes fit the vibe I was going for perfectly. The feminine glamour these sunnies bring are just perfection.
