The Look I’m Loving

You know that perfect outfit you own that you can wear to grab brunch with your girlfriends? Now imagine that look gently sprinkled with touches of sparkle. Do you smile at the thought of that like I do? I just love a little shimmer! Personally, at the moment I’m not into wearing necklaces, but items on my radar include earrings, bracelets, rings, hair accessories, & even hand bags. I am on the hunt to find the best affordable sparkly bits. These little pretties know how to catch people’s eyes & elevate any look.

My 3 Favorite Styles

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love bows. The more the merrier. Bow earrings add the sweetest feminine statement to a look. For dramatic shine, these long black bow earrings easily pair with any outfit. My smaller white bow earrings are a great dupe for the Oscar de la Renta bow earrings. When I don’t want anything flashy, my gold bow studs are the perfect go-to earrings.

Gold + Stars

I’ve had my second piercing done for years now, but I don’t always take advantage of it. I’m really into the look of huggie earrings (dainty gold earrings that “hug” your ear) layered up on the ear. Especially if they are asymmetrical! The star + moon set I’m wearing in these photos is one of my favorite sets at the moment. On the other side, the star & moon are reversed! I also have this larger pair of affordable star + moon earrings that are great for making a statement. Earrings that are asymmetrical like this are also seen from some of my favorite designers such as Dior, Gucci, & Oscar de la Renta.

(Shoutout to my Dior Studded Lady Bag dupe that’s under $20!!!)

Another great way to add a touch of sparkle to your look is with bracelets & rings. I’m typically drawn to items that are mostly gold with a few sparkles thrown in the mix. Like this dainty nautical charm bracelet I’m wearing here. Old school charm bracelets are making a come back you guys! Time to whip out your old ones or find new affordable ones such as this. There is something so satisfying to having a little jingle on your wrist.

It’s no secret that I love love love pearls right now. And how could I not? They are everywhere right now & so perfectly feminine. Designers like Jennifer Behr are influencing the accessories scene in a major way. Her use of pearls in bows, headbands, & clips for your hair is just stunning. Ever since seeing her work, I’ve been searching for similar pieces that give that same feel, but at a more affordable price point. This pearl headband (also seen here) is one of those pieces, & I can’t stop wearing it! Also pearl hair clips like these & these are so gorgeous & are currently on my shopping list. As far as earrings go, some trending pearl pieces include these pearl heart earrings (under $5) (worn here), & these super fun shell + pearl statement earrings.

Change Is All Around Us

The idea of change has been on my mind lately. We experience change on a daily basis. It’s constantly happening all around us like the change of seasons, changing our clothes, a change in our schedule, or even the change in others that affects us in one way or another. Why then, if we experience change around us all the time,  do we sometimes find change so difficult to cope with? Let me share with you my thoughts on the matter.

Get Your Head In The Game

I’ve been contemplating the different reactions I tend to have to change. On the one hand, when change occurs that tends to lean in my favor, I get excited & think of all of the reasons why this change was so good. The flip side to that is that when the change seems to have the slightest negative effect on me or my surroundings, a feeling of dread comes over me. This seemingly negative change that happens makes me feel out of control & sometimes even angry. But why does it have to be that way? Why does some change excite me while other times change makes me want to cry? I believe it’s all in the mindset.

I think it’s finding the excitement in change no matter if it’s good change or bad change. Granted, it’s much easier to find the excitement in the good change, but I think there can be reasons for excitement to be found in the midst of “bad” change. Let me give you an example of how I’ve been dealing with in this in my personal life recently:

Real Talk

Ben is now in his third week of being a police recruit, & starts police academy next month. He used to work with me as a dancer & then as a teacher at the ballet, which meant our schedules aligned well, we worked in the same building, & we could relate to each other on that level so well. Now that he is starting this new job, I’m beginning to see that that means lots of change is ahead for me. It all hit me at once, because prior to this moment I was just so full of excitement for Ben & his new dream job. I was suddenly aware of all of the ways our lives could change. To be honest, I panicked. I started thinking of all the negative things I could think of which took me down a long spiral of fear & feeling out of control. Then I went to sleep & chose not to think about it for the next few days.

My Theory

Then a few days later, I was driving to work when I had this thought,

“What if I could change my approach to negative change & find creative ways to get excited about any & every change that comes my way?”

I honestly think putting this theory into action could change my life. This is a game changer! Thinking like this is empowering & really makes me put things into perspective. Instead of seeing all of the changes that are bound to happen in my life & in our marriage as bad, I’m doing some soul searching & trying to approach the situation from a different angle.

So..maybe we won’t get to go on an international trip this next year, that means we will maybe get to see some amazing places on the east coast that we have never seen before. Maybe our schedule that I’ve grown to love so much is going to change, that just means we get to start from scratch & make a whole new schedule & fill it with whatever we want. We get to sit down & talk about what is most valuable to use & brainstorm ways to spend time together & be there for each other like never before.

What About You?

Do you see what I mean? I really think, as abstract as it may seem in the moment, that positives can be found hidden in every change that happens, we just have to be willing & creative enough to see them & then choose to become excited about them.

How do you deal with change? I would love to start a conversation in the comments below about change. Everyone experiences change, & it’s not always easy, so if you have any thoughts or insights on this topic that you would be willing to share with the F&F community, I know we could all benefit from them. Thank you in advance!

Styling A Cream Sweater

Styling A Cream Sweater

Hello Everyone!

I’ve been taking inventory on my wardrobe recently, & in doing so, I’ve discovered a few things about myself. First off, I love statement pieces. Patterns, details, & varying silhouettes clearly speak to me. Secondly, I’m very proud of the new colors I’ve added to my wardrobe over the past 6 months like green, yellow, & red. Lastly, I own so many cream sweaters. Honestly, I’m not even saying that’s a bad thing. A cream sweater is a great fall/winter staple in my wardrobe.

I want to share with you a few of my favorite cream sweaters in my collection & ways I love to style them.

Styling A Cream Sweater

To go to the pumpkin patch, I chose an old favorite from last season (similar here). I simply combined it with a good old pair of trusty Madewell jeans & a classic fall boot. To spice it up a little bit, I added a simple scarf tied around my neck (one of my favorite things to do these days) & statement crossbody I just got for my birthday.

This simple outfit (the cream sweater & blue jeans) can be easily transformed into a completely new look. Maybe I want to add a vest, or I could switch out the ankle boots for a pair of my favorite over the knee boots. Or I could dress it up a little bit with my blue velvet booties, my new camel coat (last seen here), & a faux fur scarf. The possibilities are endless, even without changing the very core of this outfit.

Another way I love to wear a cream sweater is to pair with LITERALLY any skirt. Honestly, find me a skirt a cream sweater doesn’t go with…there isn’t one. Below are some outfits I adore:

Featured Outfits

A cream sweater with a metallic pleated midi skirt, my leopard heels, & my beloved trench coat.

This cream sweater with a leather mini skirt, a long silk scarf, & my leather loafer mules. (see the look here)

A cream sweater with a patterned, floral mini skirt, my favorite ballerinas (on major sale btw), with a solid colored structured bag.

This cream sweater with a velvet midi skirt, a patterned/check coat, & pair of my favorite heels.

A cream sweater with a tweed mini skirt, a blazer, & a pair of pointed toe flats.

These are just a few ways to pair a cream sweater with a skirt & be ready for any occasion. Needless to say, this staple is crucial to my wardrobe, & yours too! I recommend starting a collection of nice, “statement” cream sweaters to help put together your fall/winter wardrobe. I recently purchased this one, which I can’t wait to wear during the holiday season. The detailed sleeves on this one help dress up an outfit, giving it a little more edge. It’s important to have both a patterned/cable sweater as well as a clean, simplistic option as well. Give yourself options to feel good about when choosing your outfit each day.

I think the thing I love most about cream sweaters is that no matter your “brand” or style or color palette, a cream sweater seamlessly fits into any clothing collection.
