Honestly, I’ve never felt more like “me” than during this shoot. For so long, I put myself in a box of what I thought people wanted to see from me, but now I’m allowing myself to be creative & take risks & create content that I truly love. What can you expect to see from me moving forward…bold makeup, creative florals, fun accessories…& as always fearless, feminine fashion. I’m still going to be showcasing affordable fashion, just with a more creative flair. I hope you guys enjoy the new content as much as I do! <3
A great way to wear your spring & summer dresses while it’s still a bit chilly out is by layering fun, feminine blouses underneath. This maxi dress features the purple color I can’t get enough of this season. It’s everywhere & honestly all I want to wear ATM. I has so much fun putting this look together with the mixing prints, textures, & bright colors. Little details I love include the watercolor blush (inspired by this video), & my gold hoops.
Over the years, Ben & I have grown to truly love living in Richmond. One of the great perks is how close it is to D.C.! This time, in an effort to avoid city traffic & paying for parking, we drove to the end of the blue line at Franconia-Springfield, parked our car there for free, & then rode the metro into the city. If you are entering the city from Virginia, I would highly recommend this trick.
Anyways, we went to D.C. to meet up with Ben’s parents who happened to be in town for work. It’s always great to be able to spend time with family seeing as though none of our family lives in VA (but I’m really pushing for at least some of my family to move out here someday…). We walked along the mall, ate tasty street food, & just got to sit & catch up which is always so refreshing.
After we ate lunch, we walked through stunning floral gardens. We saw roses of every color imaginable. Basically I was in heaven. I wish I had taken more pictures of all the colors, but of course I was drawn to all of the pinks! They were all so lovely & fragrant & effortlessly whimsical & I could have stayed there all day long. But after a long walk in the garden, we made our way over to an area of the city I had never been to…
This area of the city has been so well designed. It’s right on the water & is full of amazing restaurants, cafés, shops, & more. They even had a large bonfire for people to make s’mores at. The thing I loved most about this area though, was how visually pleasing they had made it. It was clean & has fresh pots of gorgeous flowers around every corner. Those little details mean so much & made our experience so delightful. I definitely cannot wait to go back again soon.
I hear some of you might have a wedding you may be attending this summer…;)
But really, I have 2 other weddings besides my own wedding that I’m attending in the next couple of months, so I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect wedding guest look. Let me talk you through the do’s & the don’t’s for choosing what to wear to a wedding.
Do pay attention to the dress code. Make sure you take into consideration the venue & the time of day, but a good rule of thumb is that it’s better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.
Do wear a small bag. It could be a clutch, a small crossbody, or a small handbag, but a small bag is chic choice.
Do find out what the colors are for the wedding. It’s always nice to be in the same color palette as the bridal party & decor. Wouldn’t want to show up in a lime green dress in a room full of lilac tones.
Do wear florals! Wedding always have flowers, so that’s one sure fire way you’ll fit right in.
Don’t wear something that’s too revealing. It’s best to be respectful & let the bride shine on this day, plus you don’t want to be worrying about your outfit. Wear something that you can sit, eat, & most importantly, DANCE in.
Don’t wear white! Just don’t do it!
Don’t wear all black. This is a happy day, full of joy & newness. Not a funeral.
Don’t wear denim. Even the most casual weddings deserve a step up from your day to day jeans.
Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes, even if they’re fabulous. You won’t want to have to leave early because your feet can’t handle the dance floor anymore. Block heels are my go-to for comfort & style.
