New Year Goals

New Year Goals

New Year Goals

Hello Everyone!

I’m back from a little holiday hiatus feeling inspired & ready to take on 2018.

Having a fresh start & dreaming of the year ahead is something I’m quite fond of. Making lists & setting goals is v important to me, & my list for 2018 continues to grow.

I’m trying to set some high goals so that I will push myself to achieve as many of them as possible this year. One of my very favorite cliché phrases is “dream big”. Dream big dreams, bigger than you think possible…they just might come true!

New Year Goals

So here are some of my New Year Goals…

Worry less…

I know that I am a worrier. It’s something I’m working on, & I’ll honestly be working on it for the rest of my life. One thing that I want to hone in on is my anxiety. This year, I want to make big strides on tackling my anxiety. I don’t want to let it cripple me, especially with wedding preparations underway. Sometimes, I need to let myself relax & to be ok with not getting everything done right away. I am going to be working on cutting myself some slack & moving into each day with ease. Luckily, I have an incredible fiancé who helps me with this immensely.

Learn to shoot in RAW…

I want to up to quality in my photos this year. Even if shooting in RAW is not the answer (but I think maybe it is…), I want to create more concise, better content for you. I’m planning on learning a lot through YouTube videos, but if you guys have any other suggestions or tips, let me know in the comments below!

Add some daily routines…

For Christmas this past year, I got this gorgeous One Line A Day journal. Thing thing I love most about this book is that it’s a journal I will be keeping for the next 5 years! This will cover our engagement period as well as the first 4.5 years of marriage. How special is that?! I can’t wait to look back over this book in years to come. But in order to have all of these special memories documented, I have to be diligent about actually doing it everyday…

Another daily routine I want to instill is working on my foreign languages. I would not say I am particularly good with languages, but I want to work on them everyday. I figure, if I spend just 5 minutes a day on Duolingo, I will be much better at the end of 2018 than I am now! For now, I am working on French & Italian, but if I’m honest, I’m focusing on Italian right now in preparation or our honeymoon to Italy this summer! Eek!

Take more care…

2017 brought much more care to my face & my skincare routine. This year, I want to make sure I also take care & put extra focus on the rest of my body. I need to be better about DAILY moisturizing my body, not just when I’m feeling extra. My hair care is another big one. I am starting to use better products on my hair to treat, moisturize, & nourish my hair. For now, I am using this CAVIAR Replenishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner, & I am loving it so far. I’m going on a “good hair” journey this year…can’t wait to see how it goes!

Save for a big purchase…

I have always been into nice handbags, so this year, I’ve decided to save up for my first big designer bag. Since it will take me some time to save, I’ll bring you on my search for the perfect bag over the course of this year. I’m not sure what kind I want yet, but I know I want it to be timeless, feminine, & classic. It’s such a big purchase & such a hard decision, but I am so excited about picking the perfect one for my wardrobe this year.

New Year Goals

Read more, but for real this time…

I am actually terrible at finding time to read. Most of the time, I can find ten other things to do besides read, but I want to choose to read more this year. I usually don’t read “story” books, but more like inspiration books. Anything about fashion, home styling, Paris, floral design, etc. will be on my list this year. A few in my current collection of unread books include Eat Pretty, Girlboss, The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up, & A Moveable Feast (which I actually have read, but I’m dying to read again).

Reach 2500 followers on insta…

I’ve only had a numbers goal one other time, & that was my goal to reach 1,000 followers on Instagram (which I met in 2017 thanks to you!). This year, I want to up it a little bit more. I want to set this goal even though it’s a big one, & it’s terrifying not to actually meet it, but I think it is possible. Felix & Flora is growing & I am so grateful for all of the support I have received over the past year. Let’s make this year even better!

Write the blog I want to read…

This goal is a hard one for me. How do you know what you want to read until you read it? As I am trying to figure that out, I hope to bring you guys exciting content this year. New & inventive content that you actually want to read & be inspired by. What do you guys want to hear about this year? Fashion? Makeup? Skincare? Travel? Wedding? Parties? Home? I honestly want to hear from you! Please comment below!

Become a easy, one stop shop, blog…

I’ve recently jumped on the LiketoKnow.it train! For those of you who have that app, make sure you follow me at @felixandflora to shop all of my looks this year. If you don’t have the app, I highly suggest you get it now! It’s the easiest way to shop, find great deals, & be inspired by the fashion blogger community.

I want to be that website you come to to get inspired. When you aren’t sure what to buy with all of the options out there, I want to be able to provide a curated selection of lovely pieces for you at every price point.

Stay tuned for some easy shopping right here at F&F…

Travel…

Of course, I always want to travel! Last year, I crossed the Atlantic for the first time, & now I just can’t wait to go back! I know I will be having an Italian adventure of a honeymoon with my new husband at the end of July, but I would love to explore other places as well. This spring, visiting Charleston is really high on my list of things to do. A west coast adventure would be such a fun time as well, but I’m not sure if that will happen this year. We will see…

I hope you all are having a great start to 2018!

The Best Ways To Stay Warm

The Best Ways To Stay Warm

Hello Everyone!

If you know me, then you know I love to be glam, but I also love the cold weather. I even love for my house to be cold so I can snuggle up in my favorite blankets with a hot drink in my hand. Let me share with you how I combine comfy & glam by telling you some of the best ways to stay warm this season in my book.

The Best Ways To Stay Warm

Lighting candles (Ok so it might not actually provide much warmth…but it definitely helps with the cozy factor!)

Putting on a matching comfy pajama set.

Making my favorite comfort food: grilled cheese & tomato soup.

Wrapping up in my fuzzy robe or a knit blanket or both!

Cuddling on the couch with Ben & the fur babies.

Taking a warm bath with a nice bath bomb, while the space heater is on.

Sipping a cup of delicious hot tea.

Throwing on my biggest, chunkiest sweater.

Layering up with a faux fur coat or scarf.

Making a large cup of hot cocoa in a festive mug. (recipes here)

Sitting by the fire, or in our case…watching this.

Slipping into a pair of my favorite slippers.

Covering my head (& crazy hair) with a cute hat.

Lastly, having a cup of hot bourbon & cider is sure to warm you up from the inside out.

My Coat Collection

My Coat Collection

Hello Everyone!

I have always loved coats, & I have always wanted a nice coat collection. You know what started it for me? The Devil Wears Prada. This clip of Andy walking in Manhattan & suddenly appearing in a completely different outfit with another completely stunning coat on, really stuck with me! Meanwhile, when I was living in NYC, I had a big black puffy coat that I wore on the daily, which made me look like I was wearing the same outfit everyday. I knew that someday, I wanted to own a collection with a variety of colors, textures, & silhouettes. Since then, I’ve been slowly adding to my wardrobe, & I am so in love with the pieces I’ve found over the years. I’m still really wanting to add a white, a navy, & a leopard print one to my collection…but that will come in time.

Coats can be expensive. Let me guide you through different price points for every budget to help expand your coat collection this season!

My Coat Collection

Classic Black Coat

You guys, I found this Guess coat at Goodwill for $20! I have found so many amazing things at my local Goodwill, it just takes some digging. Also, I’ve found that after the holidays, around the start of the new year, is the best time to look for coats. I love having this big black wool coat in my collection. It has a wrap around front & gold buttons that are to die for. This piece is a classic, timeless staple, & you probably already have one like it in your closet. But incase you don’t, here are a few of my favorites out there now!

My Coat Collection

Fuzzy Coat

This kind of coat might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s one of my very favorites! It’s a short coat, & looks gorgeous with skirts or dresses. Not only is it beautiful dressed up, but it works wonders with a casual outfit! Throw on your favorites jeans & almost any top, then throw a fuzzy coat like this over top, & your outfit is complete! I recommend this kind of coat to be added to your wardrobe if you are interested in living your coziest life possible. 🙂 Check out all the dreamy options below! Almost all of them are under $50!

My Coat Collection

Pink Coat

I purchased this lovely pink coat last season, & it is just so me. The shade of pink is so wearable & it has just the right amount of structure, making it both formal & casual. I was totally enamored by Julia’s pink coat, that when I saw this one, it was love at first sight. It was instantly added to my coat collection.

Whether you use it as a pop of color, or a neutral to go with everything, a pink coat does wonders for your wardrobe. And pink is totally a festive Christmas color right?!…

My Coat Collection

Cape Coat

This coat is the newest in my collection. I love the fall tones & the subtle plaid thrown into it. What I love most about it though, is the silhouette it creates. It’s sleek & longline & actually has a little padding in the shoulders to add structure. This beauty is quite warm & perfect for wrapping up in like a blanket. (Fun fact: this coat looks JUST like Uncle Drosselmeyer’s cape in our Nutcracker! haha)

My Coat Collection

Trench Coat

The best part about owning a trench coat, is that it can literally be worn all year long! I wore it all over NYC last May (see here), & I also wore it to Thanksgiving last week. It’s so versatile & totally worth the investment this year. I found mine for under $100, so it doesn’t even have to break the bank. This piece is timeless & completes any look with ease. Check out my favorites on the market right now:

F&F Guide To Fall Accessories

Fall Accessories

Hello Everyone!

I’m going to keep this intro short so we can get to the good stuff! Today we are talking about the best accessories to have in your wardrobe this season. From shoes to scarves to berets, this post covers it all! Let’s dive right in!

Boots, Loafers, & Ballerinas

Fall Accessories

I feel like this could be a whole post on it’s own! Fun fall shoes are a great way to accessorize an outfit.

I’ve always loved a good pair of ballerinas, & this year, I found the absolute best pair for under $13! They are so easy, & comfortable to wear, making them a lovely choice for an everyday outfit. It doesn’t hurt that I always feel Parisian chic while wearing them.

Loafers just scream fall to me. I love how on trend they are this year & all the different colors & styles available right now. In my collection, I have a classic brown pair, a black studded pair, a pink pair, a nude pair, a metallic silver pair, & a leather khaki colored pair. I’ve been eyeing these cream ones as well as these gorgeous neutral beige ones to round out my collection. They go with everything, & the slightly masculine feel of them just works this time of year.

Boots are always a must, & this season, I’ve finally added a pair of over the knee boots to my wardrobe. Julia, of Gal Meets Glam, has totally inspired me by showing that they can be very feminine & tasteful. Not to mention they really help you stay warm! Other boots in my collection include brown heeled boots, a pair of blue velvet ankle boots, & my duck boots. I have 3 others on my current wishlist: 1 / 2 / 3

Scarves

Fall Accessories

This goes unsaid, because everyone knows that scarves are a great way to accessorize a fall outfit. Whether it’s a small silk scarf, or a big blanket scarf, sometimes it’s not just that you are wearing it, it’s how you are wearing it. I have recently been so inspired by this post explaining 8 Ways To Wear A Scarf. It’s important to have a variety of styles in your collection to mix things up. Try adding different patterns, colors, & textures to your current collection. Also, make sure to take into account what coats you own to be sure your scarves will pair well with them. For example, I have a new check coat this season, so instead of getting all plaid scarves, I made sure to get a couple solid scarves with beautiful bold colors like this one & this one.

I’ve also been totally obsessing over the small Parisian scarves delicately tied around the neck. (last seen here) They have been all over my Instagram, seeing as though I can’t stop wearing them! In my current collection, I own a small one in blue, as well as a neutral cream colored one. See below for all the others currently on my wishlist. *swoon*

Vests

Fall Accessories

Vests are definitely a new love for me. I feel like I’ve just gotten the hang of styling them in a way I’m pleased with. They were always tricky for me, & never looked like I wanted them to while wearing one. For me, I think having the right pieces to go with them has really made the difference. The vest featured above has a small chevron pattern in the quilting, so pairing it with this solid, fall toned dress (which is on sale now btw for only $35!!) was a perfect match. I also have a burgundy vest (seen here) that was just meant to be paired with a navy cable knit sweater. Of course, they can go with other pieces in my wardrobe too, but those are a few of my favorites. (If you’d like to see other ways I style vests this time of year, let me know in the comments below.)

Purses

Fall Accessories

I have been really into crossbody purses as of late, & I have certain things I look for when choosing one to add to my collection. First, I look for color. This season, I’m all about my burgundy, navy, camel, & dark green. Then I look for structure & shape. I love it when I can fit my small camera inside my purse & plenty of lipsticks (what else would I need?…). Typically, I go for a gold chain strap with some sort of fold over top.

Fur

Fall Accessories

I have really gotten into faux furs over the past few years. They just add that instant glam & sophistication to an outfit that I absolutely live for. You can find them in so many colors making them work well with any outfit & any color coat in your collection. My navy fur scarf is definitely my most worn, but I just added this red number to my wardrobe which I can’t wait to wear with my check coat! The best thing about them is that they actually provide warmth as well! Check out all of the others I’m lusting over below!

Berets

Fall Accessories

Ah, a beret…my most Parisian accessory. There are so many gorgeous berets available right now, & it’s hard to stop adding them to my collection. I know own a camel colored one & a burgundy one, & they just do wonders for an outfit. They even work when you’re having a bad hair day! Just throw one on, & you instantly look put together & complete. These are a definite must in my fall wardrobe.

Year 26 Goals

Year 26 Goals

Year 26 Goals

Hello Everyone!

I turned 26 last week! Since then, I’ve been doing some thinking about what I want this next year of my life to look like. Setting goals is something I love to do. Goals encourage growth, remind me what is most important in life, & help me keep my passions & dreams alive. I am a very goal driven person, but most of the time, I keep track of them in my head. This year, I want to do things differently. I believe writing things down holds power over the words written. Sometimes just seeing your thoughts on paper (or on the internet) gives them more weight to then turn those words into actions. So today I want to share with you a few of my goals for this upcoming year in hopes that these words spark true action in my life.

Get A Haircut

I have skimped out on a proper haircut for YEARS! Yes, I’ve gotten nice “haircuts”, but none that required more than a straight chop or trim. This year (& soon!), I want to get a nice haircut with proper layers for better styling. Since I’m actually fixing my hair (thanks to my amazing curling iron) more these days, I would like my curls to give my hair some body rather than just hanging out at the bottom because my hair is basically all one length. Maybe I’ll post some haircut inspiration in my Instagram stories soon…

More Videos

Some of you guys might have seen my recent Q&A on my Instagram stories, which was a huge step for me. I typically shy away from speaking on camera, but I want to give it a fair try. In order to get better at it, I have to just keep trying & putting myself out there. I want to get to know you guys more & let you get to know me as well, & I believe things like being more present on my Instagram stories will help make those things happen. Who knows…maybe I’ll even start doing live tutorials?!…

Build Community

To carry on with what I was saying before, I want to build a community with you guys. I want to provide an environment here on F&F for honest communication & true friendships. Maybe that looks like responding to people faster & with more thought out answers, but that also means I need to hear from you. In order for me to achieve my goal of building a community here, I need to hear feedback from you. If you liked a post & you want to see more things like that, tell me! Maybe you didn’t care for reading something, tell me that too! If you have a question about a post, or really about anything…like my favorite cereal or something…just ask me! I want to hear from you! Let’s build an F&F community together!

Give Back

I’ve been thinking about these two words for quite some time now, & wondering how I can accomplish them in my day to day life & also here on my blog. Whether it’s making more meaningful relationships, encouraging those around me, or volunteering somewhere, I’m searching for ways I can give back to my community to help better our world. I’ll keep you updated on this one…but in the meantime, if you have any suggestions on ways to give back, please leave them in the comments below.

Write More Letters

I honestly think this is a goal every year for me. I don’t know why this doesn’t come naturally to me, but I want to be a meaningful letter writer so bad! My thought is that if I have some really beautiful stationary, I’ll be more inclined to write…do you think it will work? Any advice? I feel a stationary haul coming up soon…

Travel

This one is a little cliché, but in my 25th year, I traveled to New York, D.C., Oklahoma, Maine, Paris, & Africa! Now I don’t want to stop! I am wanting to travel near & far. My goal is to save money & miles to be able to take weekend trips places closer to home, while also taking a trip or two out of the country. A few places on my list include: Spain, London, Japan, PARIS AGAIN, Boston, Charleston, & Nashville. Here’s hoping I’m able to travel more this year!
