Over the years, Ben & I have grown to truly love living in Richmond. One of the great perks is how close it is to D.C.! This time, in an effort to avoid city traffic & paying for parking, we drove to the end of the blue line at Franconia-Springfield, parked our car there for free, & then rode the metro into the city. If you are entering the city from Virginia, I would highly recommend this trick.
Anyways, we went to D.C. to meet up with Ben’s parents who happened to be in town for work. It’s always great to be able to spend time with family seeing as though none of our family lives in VA (but I’m really pushing for at least some of my family to move out here someday…). We walked along the mall, ate tasty street food, & just got to sit & catch up which is always so refreshing.
After we ate lunch, we walked through stunning floral gardens. We saw roses of every color imaginable. Basically I was in heaven. I wish I had taken more pictures of all the colors, but of course I was drawn to all of the pinks! They were all so lovely & fragrant & effortlessly whimsical & I could have stayed there all day long. But after a long walk in the garden, we made our way over to an area of the city I had never been to…
This area of the city has been so well designed. It’s right on the water & is full of amazing restaurants, cafés, shops, & more. They even had a large bonfire for people to make s’mores at. The thing I loved most about this area though, was how visually pleasing they had made it. It was clean & has fresh pots of gorgeous flowers around every corner. Those little details mean so much & made our experience so delightful. I definitely cannot wait to go back again soon.
I sometimes have a hard time finding shorts that still have that feminine feel. When searching for the perfect pair, I look for feminine details that will help elevate my look & make a fun statement. Today I want to share a bit about this super cute outfit I’ll be living in this summer. Also, I’m rounding up my favorite feminine shorts on the market right now!
This outfit perfectly displays print mixing that follows all the rules I outlined in my Print Mixing For Beginners post. The contrasting sizes & common color palette help make these pieces a perfect match. Also, I love the silhouette this outfit creates. The high waisted shorts combined with the wrap top & puffy sleeves make that classic feminine shape I’m all about.
What To Look For…
When it comes to searching for the perfect pair of feminine shorts, there are a few things I tend to look for. First off, I don’t want them to be too short or too tight. I like my shorts to fully cover me so that I can even bend down without fear of showing more skin than I would like. This goes without saying, but of course they will also have to be high-waisted. I can’t comfortably wear non-high waisted things anymore. What can I say, I’m hooked!
As far as details go, I love these shorts because of the lovely floral print on display. Not to mention this is a Laura Ashley print which I have loved basically my entire life. I search for those details like a fun floral print, bows, or a unique color to make a statement & bring that feminine flair I love so much.
What do Audrey Hepburn, red lipstick, The Beatles, & a tweed dress all have in common? They are all considered, timeless. These things are not affected by time or changes in fashion. They will always remain classic & universally adored. As each year passes, I find myself gravitating towards things in life that have that timeless feeling to them. I even ended up choosing a wedding dress with this same feeling in mind. So when I saw this gorgeous tweed dress from Chicwish, I knew my wardrobe would thank me for adding this piece time & time again.
Once I received this dress, I realized just how special it was. It feels quite expensive & the pearl buttons are utter perfection. This piece has a very comfortable fit making it cozy & easy to wear. A dress like this can be paired with so many different shoe options. Heels of almost any color are a no-brainer, but a gorgeous pair of ballet flats would look just a stunning. I’m also currently swooning over these bow kitten heels that I think would look so lovely with this dress.
Now, I bet some of you may be thinking, “I love the dress, but when would I ever wear that?” Well let me tell you some of my favorite occasions to wear a piece like this. This dress was just meant for a dreamy Sunday brunch at a Parisian cafe. It would look oh-so chic on a fancy dinner date with your man on a chilly night seeing as though this dress is quite warm. I can also see myself wearing this dress for rooftop cocktails or the see a show, maybe even a ballet.
Anyone else like to go to museums by themselves? I actually prefer it so that you can take as much time as you’d like for each piece. This dress would be absolutely perfect for a solo day at the museum or botanical garden. I see this dress as the most feminine of power suits. The ideal dress code for a reflective day full of art, beauty, & a few cappuccinos.
Man, it feels like forever since my last Friday Five! I hope you all are having a great week so far. I wanted to leave this post for you today, while I am currently on a bus heading to the Outer Banks for my first tour stop of the season. (Follow me on tour via my Instagram story!) Over the moon just thinking about performing again.
But back to this post…it’s no secret that this summer my love for rose scented things has exploded. Today I have gathered up some of my favorite products for you & I want to specifically talk about five stand outs.
This product is a holy grail in my skincare routine. I use this oil every 3 days mixed into my night cream for extra moisture. This oil is such a perfect match for my skin. I always look forward to using this beautiful product. (Btw, updated skincare routine coming soon.)
I purchased this candle in Paris earlier this summer, & boy is it dreamy! It’s the perfect floral scent that fills the entire room. The best part…the smell lingers without even being lit! Such a great addition to my desk.
This mist is my go-to when my face just needs that extra something. The mister on this bottle is perfection, as long as you hold your breath while spraying. It’s hydrating without leaving any residue on the skin, & the scent…to die for!
This gloss is my secret weapon. It’s such a gorgeous shade of pink with the perfect amount of shimmer. You can always find this gloss in my purse because it instantly dresses up any outfit for whatever unexpected events come my way. One of my all time favorites.
I spoke about this yummy tea in my Africa post earlier this summer, and have been drinking it ever since. I first fell in love with this tea at a museum cafe in Benin, & then finally purchased some while in Paris. It’s floral, without being too floral, & just so refreshing. With fall just around the corner & Tea Time Tuesdays approaching, I know this tea is here to stay!
