Honestly, I’ve never felt more like “me” than during this shoot. For so long, I put myself in a box of what I thought people wanted to see from me, but now I’m allowing myself to be creative & take risks & create content that I truly love. What can you expect to see from me moving forward…bold makeup, creative florals, fun accessories…& as always fearless, feminine fashion. I’m still going to be showcasing affordable fashion, just with a more creative flair. I hope you guys enjoy the new content as much as I do! <3
A great way to wear your spring & summer dresses while it’s still a bit chilly out is by layering fun, feminine blouses underneath. This maxi dress features the purple color I can’t get enough of this season. It’s everywhere & honestly all I want to wear ATM. I has so much fun putting this look together with the mixing prints, textures, & bright colors. Little details I love include the watercolor blush (inspired by this video), & my gold hoops.
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems as though spring was here for about 3 weeks & now we are in full summer mode. At least here in Richmond, it’s already so hot & humid. Even though summer doesn’t technically start until June 21st, the weather certainly says otherwise. The weather & colors outside greatly affect the outfits I wear on a daily basis. Around this time of year, the sun has a way of bringing out all the warm tones of nature & casting a warm, yellow tint around us. Therefore, it’s easy to see why all I want to wear are lovely, feminine, warm tone pieces. What can I say, I like to blend in with nature!
This look is basically a compilation of all my current favorite things. First of all, this warm-toned, striped dress is so comfortable & on sale for under $25! I’m in love with the colors, the button front details, & the feminine ties on the sides. When I wear button front dresses that don’t have very full skirts, I like to unbutton a few of the bottom buttons to show a little leg & add more drama.
My blush espadrilles add the perfect touch of warmth & match my dress so well. Espadrilles are my favorite shoes to wear in the summer. They can be both casual & dressy, but they also provide those dreamy vacation vibes I crave on the daily.
My newest basket bag was an obvious choice to pair with this look. I love how the lines on my dress are mimicked by the structure of this bag. This Laura Ashley toile scarf was the perfect accessory to this bag. It’s warm pinky-peach tones are gorgeous & toile is a print I’ve loved since I was a child. I know this will be my most worn scarf of the season.
Everyday, each & every one of us performs the ritual of choosing & putting on clothes for the day. How refreshing it is to start each new day with clean clothes that speak for us & provide the first impression of our persona to the world. I’m in introvert by nature, so I love creating outfits that start conversations for me. Each day I curate outfits that tell the world around me a little bit about me before a word leaves my mouth. I want my outfits to show that I’m kind, approachable, feminine, classy, put together, a little bit playful, & always garden party ready. Knowing what I want my clothes to say about me, means I’m ready to curate my look for the day.
…a very good place to start!:) Since I know what I want my clothes to say for me, now I choose my color palette. Like I mentioned in my 6 Steps To Spring Style post, I love choosing my daily color palette by what I’m most inspired by in nature at the moment. Right now I’m loving the grass turning green again, the bright blue sky, & fresh white blooms.
Now it’s time to piece together the puzzle. I love the feminine hourglass shape look, so wearing things that aren’t too fitted around my shoulders & full skirts on my legs combined with a fitted, high-waisted waistline creates that timeless silhouette. My blue floral earrings go with the florals on my top & the navy color of my skirt bringing the whole look together.
Making It My Own
It’s important to me that I add my own personal flair to my everyday looks. For instance, I wrapped a silk scarf around the handle of my basket bag. These little details show the thought & care put into each outfit. I also love throwing in a pop of either print or color that may seem unexpected. My colorful floral embroidered mules do just that, without straying too far from the theme & vibe of the look.
Spring is right around the corner, so close on some days I can even feel it. It’s time to change over my wardrobe for warmer days. This means lighter layers, flowing fabrics, woven bags, & a romantic & fresh vibe. I can’t wait to be able to spend more time outside, smell the ever growing blooms & wear some of my favorite items in my wardrobe for the spring season. Today, I want to talk you through my spring wardrobe essentials. These items are the base of my spring wardrobe & are must-have items for any feminine wardrobe.
A crisp white top is my absolute favorite favorite item to buy. The best part is that it’s a completely guilt-free purchase because of how often I wear these pieces. They are the perfect compliment to every midi skirt, jean, or trouser I will wear all season. When I find affordable white tops online, I look to see if it has an interesting texture or shape. I love ones with a high neck, a bow detail, or dramatic sleeves. The best places to find these lovely & affordable pieces, in my experience, are H&M & Forever 21.
For shoes, nothing says spring more than a pair of pastel espadrilles. So many more companies are coming out with amazing affordable choices this year which I am so thrilled about. Last year, I purchased a classic pair of white espadrilles & wore them constantly throughout the spring & summer. This year I’ve purchased a blush pair as well as a light blue pair. I find these shoes so flattering & extremely comfortable to wear. Old Navy has also come out with some really love flat espadrilles that I’m considering trying out for days I’m on my feet more. These shoes are essential to my spring wardrobe & I love them to pieces.
I’m going to be doing an entire post on this subject coming up soon, so I won’t go into too much detail here. However, woven & wicker bags are a key accessory in my spring wardrobe. They just scream sunshine, outdoors, & endless time in the garden.
This classic & timeless accessory is the perfect way to add a bit of feminine flair to your spring wardrobe. A simple scarf is quite a versatile piece to have in your collection. It can be worn around your neck, in your hair, or tied around your handbag like I’ve worn it in this post. Try finding ones in colors you know you wear a lot in your wardrobe you can easily pair it with several outfits.
What better way to accessorize in the spring than with florals?! Statement earring in the most beautiful floral shapes are popping up everywhere. They are my very favorite earrings to wear during this season & are always a great conversation starter. I love how many affordable options there are too! No reason not to own a pair of flower earrings (or ten).
A Fresh Nude Lip + Spring Fragrance
My all time favorite nude lipstick is hands down the YSL lipstick in the shade 70 Le Nu. This formula has a lovely satin finish that wears beautifully. It’s the perfect pinky nude color for spring. The last thing that really gets my in the mood fo spring when getting ready everyday is wearing a fresh spring fragrance. Read about all of my affordable favorites here.
I keep catching myself being drawn to the color yellow. Maybe it’s my subconscious wishing for more sunshine & warmth? Or maybe it has something to do with my lemon obsession I’ve had ever since our Italian honeymoon last summer (see here: 1/2/3). Either way, this color is giving me life at the moment. I’m slowly finding ways to naturally incorporate this color into my wardrobe.
What a fun & vibrant color yellow is! It has the power & ability to absolutely cheer up any outfit. That in itself is one huge reason adding more yellow into your wardrobe this year will be a decision I will not regret.
Ease Your Way In
A great way to slowly starting adding a new color into your wardrobe is to incorporate it in with the colors you already own. I already wear a lot of pink, burgundy, & dark green, so the yellow worked into this striped dress makes wearing this bright yellow feel a little less intimidating & a little more me. Finding an item like this dress is a great way to introduce a new color to your wardrobe.
It has been just cold, cold, cold here in Richmond. So while I can’t wait to wear this dress alone or with sandals once the weather starts to warm up a bit, I added a few extra layers to make this dress wearable in the current climate. I love the way brown & yellow pairs together. Black & yellow just seems a bit too harsh for me, at least right now. Brown & yellow feels warm, fresh, & soft. A very casual & wearable color combination.
This long, feminine wrap style dress in contrast with the brown leather jacket is such a lovely pairing. I wore this look with my favorite tall brown boots that I literally wear all year long. This cheerful ensemble just begged for a fresh face. I kept my makeup simple with some bronzer & a fresh nude lip for a warm & summery feel. To add to that vibe, I even wore my cute starfish studs that remind me of the movie, Aquamarine (if only they complimented me! haha). Seeing the completed look against this dark green wall is giving me mega inspiration to do a two color look with green & yellow! Should I give it a try?
I always get so excited when I start to see the first signs of fall. The leaves are finally starting to change & the air is crisp & my outfits are beginning to add layer after layer of color & warmth. I can also tell that it’s officially fall when all I want to listen to is Taylor Swift’s Red album. That album is so nostalgic to me & always brings me back to fall in the City. I personally think that her song, All Too Well, is the best song she has ever written. Goosebumps every time. But back to fall, Ben & I were so excited to finally dive into full fall mode, that we decided to make a day out of it & road trip to the Ashland Berry Farm.
Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins
On our drive out to the farm, we talked about our favorite things we each love about fall. For me, I love the warm & spicy scents & flavors, but it’s mostly about the fashion. I love layering & mixing in my fall accessories like boots, berets, & scarves. This makes an outfit so much more rich & put together in my opinion. Of course, I totally jump on the pumpkin band wagon as well! I’m always down for a good ole pumpkin latte or pumpkin bread & if you follow my Instagram stories, you’ll know that Ben & I have been doing at home Sunday brunch which has recently included things like pumpkin pancakes & Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Rolls. They are amazing!
Ben talked about how he loves the cool air of fall. He is just warm by nature & was born & raised in Maine, so cold days are his jam. Another big part of fall for him is football season seeing as though he is a big Patriot’s fan. I’ve grown to enjoy watching the games too, although I must admit that it’s usually half watching & half online shopping…:) Ben also loves a good pumpkin latte but he likes them iced. In fact, on our first date, Ben brought pumpkin lattes for the both of us to have before seeing an exhibit at a local museum. Pumpkin lattes have a special place in our hearts because they in a way take us back to that very first date.
“That’s Actually A Gourd”
When we arrived to the farm, we took a hay ride out to the pumpkin fields. We made it our mission to find the best pumpkins. Ben, of course, spotted them immediately & then also found the cutest & tiniest pumpkin I have ever seen. On our ride back to the entrance of the farm, we showed one of the workers our tiny pumpkin, to which he quickly corrected us saying, “That’s not a pumpkin, it’s actually a gourd.” Well, ok then. So we decided to name it Gordon & it sits on our coffee table & makes us smile daily. Oh, Gordon…
Once we got back, we knew we couldn’t leave without getting some apple cider & homemade donuts. It was my first cider of the season & I have been hooked on Trader Joe’s amazing cider every since. We got 6 small donuts thinking that we would take some home for later, but found ourselves loving them so much that we ate them all right then & there. They were so delicious! We already can’t wait to go back next year.
