Q&A: Fashion Dilemmas

Q&A: Fashion Dilemmas

You Ask, I Answer

I asked you guys on Instagram a while back what your fashion dilemmas were. Whether they were about styling or shopping, I gathered a few of the best questions to answer for you here today! Let’s see if we can solve some of your fashion dilemmas…

Q&A: Fashion Dilemmas
Q: “Packing for a trip is always difficult. How can I be stylish without bringing too many items?”

A: Packing for a trip is definitely a challenge, but it can be really run too! My biggest tip for this dilemma is to stick with a color palette.

Think about where you are going & in what season. What colors will either go nicely with your surroundings or fit that season well? Sticking to a color palette of 3-4 colors that all go together will ensure you will be able to mix & match the items you pack for your trip. Also, be realistic when it comes to shoes. Shoes can often take up so much room in a suitcase, so if you won’t actually wear them, don’t bring them.

Q: “What tips do you have for accessorizing with scarves for the upcoming fall season?”

A: Wearing scarves is one of my favorite ways to accessorize during the fall season. They are so versatile & there are so many ways to personalize your look with them.

Square silk scarves & bandanas are my go-to’s for an effortlessly put together look. I like to fold two opposing corners into the center & then roll the folded ends together. Then I tie the scarf around my neck in a simple knot. This floral silk scarf is the newest in my collection & is under $10! Its colors will perfectly go with so many looks I’m planning for the fall season.

Long silk scarves like this burgundy one I recently added to my collection, are another great layering piece. I like to fold & roll the larger scarves just as I would with the smaller square ones, but then I will either leave them draped around my neck untied, tied in a loose knot at my sternum level, or tied in a bow around my neck. Unless it’s really cold, I like to reserve lighter scarves such as these for the fall & my thicker wool, blanket scarves for the winter season.

Q: “My fashion dilemma: How can I explore new trends without compromising my personal style/aesthetic?”

A: This is a tricky question, because certain trends can often clash with your style or aesthetic. I would again bring it back to color.

Take the animal print trend for instance. I personally do not wear black very often, yet many times, animal prints come in black or are in combination with black in the print. However, finding items like this green croc-style round bag or these feminine blush, croc-style block heels can make this trend fit in with my personal style.

If you are wanting to try out a new trend, try finding pieces that display that trend in colors already found in your current wardrobe. Also, I highly recommend finding “trendy” pieces at stores with affordable prices so that if you don’t end up getting on with them, then at least you haven’t spent loads of money on them.

Q: “I love the prices at online shops like Shein, but I’m nervous about purchasing from them. Is it safe?”

A: The short answer is, yes.

I have actually been shopping on sites like Shein for quite a while now & 99% of the time I have been happy with the products I have purchased. One of the main tips I have when shopping on sites like this is to avoid items not worn by a model. I always like to see what something actually looks like on a human before buying it. That way I can see how it hangs & fits on the model & can make a guess based off the measurements given in the description as to whether or not it would fit me well.

Friday Five – Perfect Your Parisian Summer Wardrobe

Friday Five - Perfect Your Parisian Summer Wardrobe

Hello Everyone!

Ah…Paris…was it all a dream?

I can’t believe I was really there! It was all so beautiful. All I wanted to do was jump from café to café, sipping on delicious noisette, while watching the unique people & fashion of this great city. I’ve decided that no amount of visiting will ever satisfy my Parisian craving…I must live here (even for 3 months) someday. I desperately want to embody the Parisian woman, & know the city inside & out. I want to know the non-touristy parts of the city & go where the locals go. This also means I must learn French. (Eek! Come on Duolingo…but for real this time.) The determined dreamer in me will make it happen!

Although, since I don’t live in Paris at the moment *sigh* I’ve decided that I can start to embody the Parisian woman (her style, how she eats, her habits, her seemingly effortless glamour) right here in Richmond, VA.

Today I’m starting with first things first: the Parisian wardrobe.

I didn’t want to go for the typical, cliché black dress or striped shirt sort of thing. From what I’ve gathered, the Parisian woman never wants to look over the top, her hair is never done to a T (thank goodness!), & she always looks as though she just threw something on & it’s no big deal (but inside, she knows she looks good).

So here are 5 things I just “threw on” (not really…totally planned for weeks) while in Paris. These items will help me bring my inner Parisian wherever I am.

1. The Classy Sundress

Remember this dress? It was one of the choices for my Easter dress! You guys didn’t choose this one, but I secretly fell in love with it so I had to buy it! (Along with my actual Easter dress of course.) I had been saving it for the perfect occasion, & it just screamed Paris. I’m absolutely in love with the colors on this dress. The pastels against the natural white color are gorgeous, and they actually make me look quite tan! The length, combined with the one shouldered ruffle detail make this dress super classy, never giving too much away, while still being feminine & put together.

2. The Perfect Mule

There’s no question that the mule trend is in full swing (& I hope it’s here to stay!). I found these mules at Forever 21 just a few days before I left the country. As I tried on my outfits for Paris for the last time (total planner…how un-Parisian of me…oops), these shoes flawlessly went with every single outfit! They just worked. Basically I wore these shoes all over Paris. They are super comfortable and so easy to walk in. Even on the cobblestone roads of Paris, the shoes performed beautifully. You need a pair of these to effortlessly pull an outfit together.

3. The Bardot Top

Here’s another trend that can be seen everywhere, but it just makes sense why. How gorgeous & sexy (without being slutty) is this top? I love that the material is a little bit more crisp, & the flowy sleeves with the tie detail are the icing on the cake. The perfect way to spice up a basic white shirt. I tucked mine into this ruffled tulle skirt (because I love to wear tutus…I am a ballerina through & through), but it can also easily be styled with a nice pair of jeans or a pair of culottes. This is a true staple to add to your wardrobe. Wear it, & let out your inner Parisian woman.

4. The Lemon Drop

Yellow can be a tricky color to wear (anyone else find it difficult?), but I say find your shade & wear proudly. I’ve found that this lemon shade works best on my skin tone, & boy, did I feel so cute & summery wearing my lemon romper! Put in the work (behind the scenes like a true Parisian) to find what shade works best for you. Then wear it nonchalantly, letting others be amazed that you can pull off that color so well. It’s really fun! I promise you can do it. Rock it!

5. The Face-Covering Sunnies

These sunnies are my ride or die sunglasses. They are huge, without being obnoxious & bought at a reasonable price. Undoubtedly, they are Céline “Tilda” dupes, but I don’t care…I love them! They are perfect face coverers, great for masking the early-morning-no-makeup-coffee-runs, the times you can’t control the tears in public, & the secret people watching (or staring). Grab a pair of large or cat eye sunnies, & pair them with your favorite red lipstick, and transform into a calm, cool, & collected Parisian woman (whether you are those things or not).

Firecracker! All The Red, White, & Blue Inspiration You Need

Hello Everyone!

How is it already almost July?! June just flew by!

I always think of the 4th as such a family holiday. My family always gathers together to attend the same fireworks show in Edmond, OK, & this year is no exception. My sisters & I love getting dressed in our patriotic red, white, & blue outfits, taking fun pictures together, & after dark, watching the magical display unfold in the sky.

Seeing as though the 4th of July is next week, I’ve started my search for some festive red, white, & blue items to wear, & have compiled some of my favorites below. My holiday plans are rather casual, but I’ve made sure to include outfit inspo for any occasion.

Enjoy!

What are your plans for the 4th this year?

Do you know what you’re wearing?
