Q&A: Fashion Dilemmas

You Ask, I Answer

I asked you guys on Instagram a while back what your fashion dilemmas were. Whether they were about styling or shopping, I gathered a few of the best questions to answer for you here today! Let’s see if we can solve some of your fashion dilemmas…

Q&A: Fashion Dilemmas
Q: “Packing for a trip is always difficult. How can I be stylish without bringing too many items?”

A: Packing for a trip is definitely a challenge, but it can be really run too! My biggest tip for this dilemma is to stick with a color palette.

Think about where you are going & in what season. What colors will either go nicely with your surroundings or fit that season well? Sticking to a color palette of 3-4 colors that all go together will ensure you will be able to mix & match the items you pack for your trip. Also, be realistic when it comes to shoes. Shoes can often take up so much room in a suitcase, so if you won’t actually wear them, don’t bring them.

Q: “What tips do you have for accessorizing with scarves for the upcoming fall season?”

A: Wearing scarves is one of my favorite ways to accessorize during the fall season. They are so versatile & there are so many ways to personalize your look with them.

Square silk scarves & bandanas are my go-to’s for an effortlessly put together look. I like to fold two opposing corners into the center & then roll the folded ends together. Then I tie the scarf around my neck in a simple knot. This floral silk scarf is the newest in my collection & is under $10! Its colors will perfectly go with so many looks I’m planning for the fall season.

Long silk scarves like this burgundy one I recently added to my collection, are another great layering piece. I like to fold & roll the larger scarves just as I would with the smaller square ones, but then I will either leave them draped around my neck untied, tied in a loose knot at my sternum level, or tied in a bow around my neck. Unless it’s really cold, I like to reserve lighter scarves such as these for the fall & my thicker wool, blanket scarves for the winter season.

Q: “My fashion dilemma: How can I explore new trends without compromising my personal style/aesthetic?”

A: This is a tricky question, because certain trends can often clash with your style or aesthetic. I would again bring it back to color.

Take the animal print trend for instance. I personally do not wear black very often, yet many times, animal prints come in black or are in combination with black in the print. However, finding items like this green croc-style round bag or these feminine blush, croc-style block heels can make this trend fit in with my personal style.

If you are wanting to try out a new trend, try finding pieces that display that trend in colors already found in your current wardrobe. Also, I highly recommend finding “trendy” pieces at stores with affordable prices so that if you don’t end up getting on with them, then at least you haven’t spent loads of money on them.

Q: “I love the prices at online shops like Shein, but I’m nervous about purchasing from them. Is it safe?”

A: The short answer is, yes.

I have actually been shopping on sites like Shein for quite a while now & 99% of the time I have been happy with the products I have purchased. One of the main tips I have when shopping on sites like this is to avoid items not worn by a model. I always like to see what something actually looks like on a human before buying it. That way I can see how it hangs & fits on the model & can make a guess based off the measurements given in the description as to whether or not it would fit me well.

How To Un-Basic Your Wardrobe

Hello Everyone!

Sometimes sticking to the basics can be a good thing. With the start of the new year & a new season approaching, you might be finding yourself, as I am, in need of a little boost. I’ve put together a few tips & ideas on how to un-basic your wardrobe that just might give you the boost you need.

It’s dress up time!

Do you tend to gravitate towards the same handful of “safe” outfits in your wardrobe? It’s time to mix things up. Pop some bubbly. Invite a friend over that you actually trust for fashion advice & get to it! What is it about those “safe” outfits that you love? Do they bring you joy? Confidence? Let’s try to find those same things you love about that outfit in a new one.

Pattern Mixing

Try mixing stripes or gingham with florals this season. If this seems like a scary task, read my Print Mixing For Beginners post, or check out Adorn Yourself Accordingly for some major inspo! I also have a Pinterest board dedicated to print mixing outfit inspiration you can check out here.

Add a red lip to one of your go-to looks

Throw on that go-to outfit that you love & feel good in, then add a pop of color to your lips! What a fun & simple way to shake things up. My fav red lipsticks are Milani Matte Iconic & Marc Jacobs So Rouge.

Pair with some unexpected shoes

Add a heel to a casual look, or a pop of color to a more neutral outfit. It’s easy to stick to the basics when it comes to shoes, but I find statement shoes (even a pair or embellished or fancy flats) can really take an outfit to the next level.

Style your hair differently.

This can be as simple as parting your hair in a different place! I love playing with a deep side part, to a normal side part, to an almost middle part. Such an easy way to mix it up. Or, with spring & summer on the horizon, if you tend to “fix” your hair everyday, go for a more natural look every once in a while. Find ways to improve your ponytail like with invisibobbles, bows, or scarves. These subtle changes make a huge difference in the long run.

What to invest in this season

A classic trench coat has been the best investment piece I’ve ever owned. I literally wear mine in every season, but it gets the most wear during the spring. Florals look amazing underneath a piece like this. (& you know that’s all I am wanting to wear right now!) It’s that perfect item that looks so smart when layered over literally any outfit. A classic piece everyone should own. There are also versions out there that help you make a wardrobe basic, un-basic. Look for one in a different color like pink, white, or blue, or find one with just a little more detail or flare to give it an extra edge.

One of my favorite ways to really make an outfit pop is with statement earrings. These are EVERYWHERE right now, so they shouldn’t be hard to get your hands on a pair or four. Pairs catching my eye recently are typically ones with big structured flowers. I mean what’s not to love, am I right?!

All I am wanting to wear on my feet right now are embroidered shoes. I even have a pair that I’m potentially wearing for my wedding reception shoes (sneak peek here). Needless to say, I love them. They are big right now, & a brilliant way to un-basic your day-to-day outfits.

Straw bags are trending again this spring summer (yay!), & are a great way to add texture to your #ootd. They come in all different shapes, styles, colors, & price points, making it easy to find the one that works for you. If you don’t already have one, this item is a spring/summer must-have.

Lust List

Hello Everyone!

It’s about time I put up a new lust list, isn’t it? Summer is here & with a new season comes the need for some new additions to my wardrobe. As you will see below, I am having a moment with a few trends including bows, bardot, gingham, ruffles, red, & embroidery. You know I have been obsessing over my gold bow mules (seen here & here) & this pair in black might simply have to be mine. As I mentioned in my last post, Kate has been totally making me feel like adding some red to my summer wardrobe is something I desperately need to do, & I’m totally into these adorable pieces below. These embroidered mom jeans are right up my alley & a must-have for summer. I’m slowly building my collection of cute pajama sets, & it’s about time for another.

Happy Shopping!!!
