48 Hours In Richmond Guide

Welcome To My City!

Whenever I travel somewhere new, I like to document the things I saw, the things I love, the places I recommend going, etc. This spring, someone recommended to me that I should document those same things about the city I call home, Richmond, VA. What a great idea?! So today I’m sharing my 48 hours in Richmond guide. Get ready for a weekend of all of my favorite things in this amazing city.

48 Hours In Richmond Guide

Friday

Where To Stay

I recommend staying at the loveliest hotel in RVA, the Quirk Hotel. It’s located downtown & has a beautiful aesthetic with pink as their primary color. The lobby has incredible high arched ceilings & beautiful furnishings including their iconic pink velvet couch.

Grab A Quick Snack

After arriving in Richmond after your trip, I would stop by Lift Coffee Shop & Cafe for a quick bite to eat. They have great coffee & sandwiches, but my favorite thing to order is their peanut butter & banana smoothie. I typically don’t go for this kind of smoothie, but their’s is just so good. Richmond is also know for it’s many murals & Lift has a very fitting mural of a pair of wings right outside, perfect for a good photo opt.

Check Out The Neighborhood

Next, you might want to stretch your legs a bit & take a stroll around the neighborhood. Right down the street from the hotel, are a few really cute shops you could visit. Mod & Soul has some really cool, very Richmond style pieces including clothes, candles, little bits & bobs all at affordable prices. Then right next door is the dreamiest little store called Verdalina, which has stunning garments, accessories, & beauty products that are super high quality at a more luxury price. Perfect to find a great keepsake to remember your trip by.

If these shops are a bit too feminine if you’re traveling with mixed company, there is a great little bookstore across the street, a men’s store called Ledbury, & a great ice cream shop called Charm School.

In The Evening

Richmond is such a foodie city, & there are countless amazing restaurants available for you to try. (see my full favorites list below) One of my very favorite restaurants downtown would have to be Wong Gonzalez. This is an Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant that just gets it so right. For appetizers, I love the tequila shrimp & the fiesta bites & my go-to entree is the Gonzi’s Stir Fry Skillet. Ben also really loves the Asian BBQ Pork Tacos. Fun fact: there is a special events room upstairs called Beauty & Grace, & there is a life-size picture of me on the wall!

Don’t let the fun stop after dinner! Grab a fun cocktail either at Quirk’s scenic rooftop bar or head over to Switch, Richmond’s newest pop-up bar. This place is so cool because it completely changes themes every 6-8 weeks. When I went recently, the top floor was Alice & Wonderland themed & then once you “go down the rabbit hole”, the downstairs took you back in time to the 90s. They have delicious specialty cocktails that carry out the theme of the room you’re in. A super cool spot & you never know what you’re gonna walk into.

Time For Breakfast

My all time favorite spot for breakfast in this city is Can Can Brasserie. When our families come into town, they cannot go home without a visit to Can Can because of it’s authentic Parisian atmosphere. When you walk inside, you truly feel like you could be in Paris! I love going during their coffee house hours for delicious pastries & amazing coffee.

After breakfast, I recommend taking a stroll down Carytown. This is a favorite spot to visit in Richmond because of it’s cute shops & restaurants. Some of my favorite shops in Carytown include, Mongrel – the perfect place to find a gift for ANYONE!, Bygones – a vintage store with fabulous dresses & accessories (you’ll want everything!), Sugar + Twine – a great spot for a mid-day coffee pick me up (don’t leave without trying their cheddar biscuits!), Creme de la Creme – they have beautiful dishes, candles, party goods, & home decor that are all swoon worthy, & Ginger Thai – my favorite Thai food in the city.

Next, Choose An Afternoon Activity

Option 1

Head over to the Museum District & check out the Virginia Museum Of Fine Arts. This museum is really top notch with incredible exhibits inside, a great cafe, & stunning gardens outside. One of my favorite spots to come to get inspired & feel that sense of awe when looking at truly magnificent art.

After going through the museum, take a bit of time to stroll down the streets in the Fan District. The houses are so quaint & colorful & each have their own unique personality.

Option 2

Head over to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens & prepare yourself for jaw dropping blooms! I recently posted about my latest visit where I finally got to see their butterflies LIVE! exhibit. Truly a magical experience. See that post here.

Option 3

Visit Maymont Park! This is one of my favorite locations for photoshoots because you truly feel like you are not in the city anymore. The gardens & the landscaping are just incredible. Walk through the Italian gardens, then through the Japanese gardens & find yourself perfectly at peace in this tranquil space. If the weather is nice, pack a lunch & have a picnic under the huge trees or inside one of the many gazebos on site.

Dinner

Eat dinner in The Fan tonight. Try Kuba Kuba for amazing Cuban style food (Everyone here loves that place! Don’t forget to try their fried plantains!), or Beauvine Burger Concept for a fun atmosphere, great burgers, & I highly recommend their frosé which has elderflower liquor in it.

Craving Dessert?

If you are a cake lover, or even a wine lover, you should go to Shyndigz. This place sells the best cake in the city & you can order it by the slice! Such a cute spot & very Instagram worthy.

Breakfast

Let’s head in a different direction this time & go to Hot Diggity Donuts. This place is small but the service is great & the donuts are made right in front of you when you order them. They are served hot & every single flavor is a win! I recommend trying their cappuccinos as well. They are perfectly petite as they should be.

One Last Thing

Before heading back home, you cannot leave the River City without visiting the James River! I suggest heading towards Brown’s Island & explore the area by this majestic river. There is also a bridge you can walk across the entire river, or at least half-way to get a great photo.

Our Valentine's Day + Celebrating 6 Months Of Marriage

My Forever Valentine

This is our fourth Valentine’s Day together, but this year is the most special of them all. We are officially a family now & since our wedding, our love has only grown. (As cheesy as it sounds…it’s true!) Ben & I wanted to do something special together to celebrate our first married Valentine’s Day, but we had to do it a little bit early this year. I will be performing tonight & the rest of the weekend, so Ben had the great idea of visiting the beautiful Agecroft Hall last weekend. Neither of us had ever been, so we slept in, had cinnamon rolls & coffee, then left at noon to arrive right when the gates opened.

Agecroft Hall

Agecroft Hall is a lovely, Tudor manor house right on the James River located just minutes from our house. Believe it or not, this home was built in the late 15th century in Lancashire, England. Then in the early 20th century it was deconstructed, shipped overseas, & rebuilt. This place is incredible. The details, paintings, elaborate beds & ceilings were magnificent. Not to mention the masterfully laid out gardens. Needless to say, we cannot wait to go back in the spring & summer when the gardens are in full bloom. I hear that in the summer, the also have live Shakespeare performances outside! We had a lovely afternoon on this amazing property & cannot wait to go back.

Our First 6 Months

Ben & I recently celebrated our 6 month wedding anniversary. Since our magical wedding day, we’ve travelled to Italy, Ben started a new job, I changed my name, we had both of our families here at home for Christmas, & we’ve worked together as a team on building our life together as well as our finances. We love spending time together & dreaming big dreams for our future. Both of us have mentioned that it is still some much fun calling each other husband & wife. As we were reflecting the other night & talking about the last 6 months of marriage, the same truth rang true in both of our hearts: we’ve never felt more in love. Maybe it’s the honeymoon season, but either way, I love this man & am so thankful we are on this path together.

My Coat Collection

My Coat Collection

Hello Everyone!

I have always loved coats, & I have always wanted a nice coat collection. You know what started it for me? The Devil Wears Prada. This clip of Andy walking in Manhattan & suddenly appearing in a completely different outfit with another completely stunning coat on, really stuck with me! Meanwhile, when I was living in NYC, I had a big black puffy coat that I wore on the daily, which made me look like I was wearing the same outfit everyday. I knew that someday, I wanted to own a collection with a variety of colors, textures, & silhouettes. Since then, I’ve been slowly adding to my wardrobe, & I am so in love with the pieces I’ve found over the years. I’m still really wanting to add a white, a navy, & a leopard print one to my collection…but that will come in time.

Coats can be expensive. Let me guide you through different price points for every budget to help expand your coat collection this season!

My Coat Collection

Classic Black Coat

You guys, I found this Guess coat at Goodwill for $20! I have found so many amazing things at my local Goodwill, it just takes some digging. Also, I’ve found that after the holidays, around the start of the new year, is the best time to look for coats. I love having this big black wool coat in my collection. It has a wrap around front & gold buttons that are to die for. This piece is a classic, timeless staple, & you probably already have one like it in your closet. But incase you don’t, here are a few of my favorites out there now!

My Coat Collection

Fuzzy Coat

This kind of coat might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s one of my very favorites! It’s a short coat, & looks gorgeous with skirts or dresses. Not only is it beautiful dressed up, but it works wonders with a casual outfit! Throw on your favorites jeans & almost any top, then throw a fuzzy coat like this over top, & your outfit is complete! I recommend this kind of coat to be added to your wardrobe if you are interested in living your coziest life possible. 🙂 Check out all the dreamy options below! Almost all of them are under $50!

My Coat Collection

Pink Coat

I purchased this lovely pink coat last season, & it is just so me. The shade of pink is so wearable & it has just the right amount of structure, making it both formal & casual. I was totally enamored by Julia’s pink coat, that when I saw this one, it was love at first sight. It was instantly added to my coat collection.

Whether you use it as a pop of color, or a neutral to go with everything, a pink coat does wonders for your wardrobe. And pink is totally a festive Christmas color right?!…

My Coat Collection

Cape Coat

This coat is the newest in my collection. I love the fall tones & the subtle plaid thrown into it. What I love most about it though, is the silhouette it creates. It’s sleek & longline & actually has a little padding in the shoulders to add structure. This beauty is quite warm & perfect for wrapping up in like a blanket. (Fun fact: this coat looks JUST like Uncle Drosselmeyer’s cape in our Nutcracker! haha)

My Coat Collection

Trench Coat

The best part about owning a trench coat, is that it can literally be worn all year long! I wore it all over NYC last May (see here), & I also wore it to Thanksgiving last week. It’s so versatile & totally worth the investment this year. I found mine for under $100, so it doesn’t even have to break the bank. This piece is timeless & completes any look with ease. Jord Watch

Jord Watch

Hello Everyone!

Sometimes, a beautiful watch is just the accessory you need to complete your fall look. They are the perfect juxtaposition of function & fashion, helping us look professional & put together while adding that extra, elemental detail that looks amazing in photos. This time of year, when all I want to wear are knit sweaters, camel coats, & roll necks, I find that a chunkier watch fits right in & really helps a look come together.

In the spirit of Christmas that is quickly approaching, I’m happy to announce that I have partnered with Jord Watches as a part of their Holiday Campaign. I’ve always loved the look of a wood watch, & the craftsmanship & care put into these beautiful products is unmatched. (*Read through the end for an exclusive holiday discount!*) My watch is a gorgeous zebrawood with a bold navy face. Navy is one of my very favorite colors to wear year-round, so when I saw this one, I knew I needed it in my collection. The coolest part about Jord Watches is that they are actually made of real, hand-finished wood! I’m in awe of the quality of this product, & even though is it wood, it’s splash-proof! (phew! Although…better not submerge it in water.)

Jord wooden watch in a box

The watch itself is great, but another selling factor is the packaging! Every watch comes in it’s own wooden box that acts as a humidity control home for your wooden watch. The bottom has a drawer with vents & is equipped with humidity packs to ensure optimal humidity when storing your watch. The top secures by a very satisfying magnetic pull, & looks perfect displayed on a bedside table or vanity.

A nice, hand-crafted wood watch makes the perfect holiday gift for someone special in your life. I know my boyfriend already has his sights set on the Hyde Series watch in walnut & black, which will probably be making it into his stocking this year (hopefully he isn’t reading this!). For women, I would suggest the Frankie Series (like my watch), or the brand new slimmer band Cassia Series. The walnut & vintage rose has my name written all over it!

Since this partnership is for their Holiday Campaign, they very kindly gave me a coupon code for 25% off your entire purchase! Just click here, & you will be emailed with your very own discount code. This is their biggest deal of the year…so don’t miss out!

Wanting to purchase a watch for a gift? Personalize it by adding some engraving to the box! xx

Year 26 Goals

Year 26 Goals

Year 26 Goals

Hello Everyone!

I turned 26 last week! Since then, I’ve been doing some thinking about what I want this next year of my life to look like. Setting goals is something I love to do. Goals encourage growth, remind me what is most important in life, & help me keep my passions & dreams alive. I am a very goal driven person, but most of the time, I keep track of them in my head. This year, I want to do things differently. I believe writing things down holds power over the words written. Sometimes just seeing your thoughts on paper (or on the internet) gives them more weight to then turn those words into actions. So today I want to share with you a few of my goals for this upcoming year in hopes that these words spark true action in my life.

Get A Haircut

I have skimped out on a proper haircut for YEARS! Yes, I’ve gotten nice “haircuts”, but none that required more than a straight chop or trim. This year (& soon!), I want to get a nice haircut with proper layers for better styling. Since I’m actually fixing my hair (thanks to my amazing curling iron) more these days, I would like my curls to give my hair some body rather than just hanging out at the bottom because my hair is basically all one length. Maybe I’ll post some haircut inspiration in my Instagram stories soon…

More Videos

Some of you guys might have seen my recent Q&A on my Instagram stories, which was a huge step for me. I typically shy away from speaking on camera, but I want to give it a fair try. In order to get better at it, I have to just keep trying & putting myself out there. I want to get to know you guys more & let you get to know me as well, & I believe things like being more present on my Instagram stories will help make those things happen. Who knows…maybe I’ll even start doing live tutorials?!…

Build Community

To carry on with what I was saying before, I want to build a community with you guys. I want to provide an environment here on F&F for honest communication & true friendships. Maybe that looks like responding to people faster & with more thought out answers, but that also means I need to hear from you. In order for me to achieve my goal of building a community here, I need to hear feedback from you. If you liked a post & you want to see more things like that, tell me! Maybe you didn’t care for reading something, tell me that too! If you have a question about a post, or really about anything…like my favorite cereal or something…just ask me! I want to hear from you! Let’s build an F&F community together!

Give Back

I’ve been thinking about these two words for quite some time now, & wondering how I can accomplish them in my day to day life & also here on my blog. Whether it’s making more meaningful relationships, encouraging those around me, or volunteering somewhere, I’m searching for ways I can give back to my community to help better our world. I’ll keep you updated on this one…but in the meantime, if you have any suggestions on ways to give back, please leave them in the comments below.

Write More Letters

I honestly think this is a goal every year for me. I don’t know why this doesn’t come naturally to me, but I want to be a meaningful letter writer so bad! My thought is that if I have some really beautiful stationary, I’ll be more inclined to write…do you think it will work? Any advice? I feel a stationary haul coming up soon…

Travel

This one is a little cliché, but in my 25th year, I traveled to New York, D.C., Oklahoma, Maine, Paris, & Africa! Now I don’t want to stop! I am wanting to travel near & far. My goal is to save money & miles to be able to take weekend trips places closer to home, while also taking a trip or two out of the country. A few places on my list include: Spain, London, Japan, PARIS AGAIN, Boston, Charleston, & Nashville. Here’s hoping I’m able to travel more this year!

Are you a fellow goal-setter? What are some goals you have for this year? xx

RVA Fall Flavors: @ Can Can

48 Hours In Richmond Guide

RVA Fall Flavors @ Can Can

Hello Everyone!

It’s time for my second RVA Fall Flavors!

I have gone to the beloved Can Can twice recently to test out some of their seasonal drinks, & I have no doubt that I will be back again soon. They are offering 5 fall drinks right now, & the two I have tried have been absolutely delicious.

My first choice was the Harvest French Press. I have to admit, I’ve had this before, & it’s now an all time favorite of mine. My boyfriend even loves it! They have a small & large option which is perfect for either going solo or sharing with a friend (or date). For me, it’s perfectly sweetened & spiced to add just a splash of cream & call it good. Such a special fall treat!

For my second choice, I ordered the Maple Spiced Chai, & it surly didn’t disappoint! I love a good chai latte, & the hint of maple was just divine. I will say, if you don’t love sweet drinks, this might not be your go-to, but I quite enjoyed it on my lovely Sunday morning brunch date.

My sweet treat of choice with both drinks was a chocolate croissant. This was not a seasonal treat, but a good year round choice that I just couldn’t resist.
