Just over a year ago, while I was in Italy, I made a vow to myself that I would live more colorfully. I wanted to learn to embrace & love every color, because seeing them all on display while on vacation made me so happy. It seemed to me that wearing more colors would therefore make me happier & maybe even that that joy would spread to those around me. You guys, I’m so happy to share that when looking back on posts from this past year that I have truly lived out a year of color. Scroll to see each color worn several times throughout the past year!
Now It’s Your Turn!
I’m definitely not finished with my color journey & I can’t wait to see what the coming year brings, but now I want to extend the challenge to all of you! I dare you to live colorfully. Explore some new colors this year by pairing them with colors you already know & love. Maybe you’re not ready for the whole rainbow, but start with one. Make an effort to incorporate one new color into your wardrobe over the next few months. I’d love to hear what colors you’re thinking about exploring! Comment down below which color or colors you want to explore more! If I have any helpful tips on them, I’ll share them with you!
I know, I know…this is not my typical dress or skirt or even trouser look, but I’ve fallen hard for this pair of super affordable denim culottes. They are basically the flowing midi skirt version of jeans. If you, like me, are a lover of feminine fashion & anything with a bit of drama, I’m sure you’ll fall in love with these too. Especially after reading my full review of the jeans of the season, below…
You may think this shape would be a bit unflattering, but let me tell exactly why that’s not true. First of all, these pants are very high waisted. This is one of the very best features about these pants in my opinion because it cinches you in at the most ideal place to create that figure flattering silhouette. These jeans will go perfectly with my spring/summer shirts that are a bit more cropped as well as more flowy & billowing tops that I can wear tucked in. Then the cropped wide leg makes your ankles look skinny & then draws your focus back up to that cinched in waist line.
But Wait, There’s More
You guys, these pants are such a steal! At only $30, your spring wardrobe needs a pair. (Or if you’re like me, you might need two!) They’re flattering, affordable, & oh-so comfortable. I would even travel in them, they’re so comfortable. With so many brands out there coming out with their own version of these pants, I had to let you all know that these are the very best.
I’ve been so inspired by designer looks from fashion week. The fabrics they are using, the color combinations, the accessories & makeup, just everything has me in awe. If you guys have been following my Facebook page or my Instagram stories, you will have seen that I’ve been posting a lot about some really affordable designer dupes. I know that dupes can be a bit of a touchy subject at times, but my philosophy is that imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery. If I can get the same feel or look as what I’m seeing designers make for an affordable price, I’m going to go for it.
This series will highlight some of my favorite designers, the pieces I’m currently crushing on, & all the affordable dupes & designer inspired pieces I’ve found lately. I’m so pumped for this series. Let’s dive into the amazing Oscar de la Renta.
Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta was my very first designer crush back when I was in high school. I had an app that let me scroll through all of the runway show looks, & each time I was captivated by the colors, prints, florals, & silhouettes of OdlR. Since then I’ve continued to be constantly inspired by these designs. Twice I’ve worn real OdlR earrings to galas & felt like an actual princess (see here & here).
Below are a few Oscar de la Renta pieces I’m currently crushing on. I’ve found some amazing dupes & designer inspired pieces to share with you guys…
Affordable Pieces With Designer Feel
1. Red Lace Dress
This gorgeous red lace dress has a sweet floral design almost exactly like the Oscar de la Renta original. It’s the perfect length for spring & I love the flutter sleeves & the unexpected collar detail.
One of my favorite things about OdlR is that the collections are full of extravagant, lovely pieces that somehow seem so wearable. I think every woman needs a good ole classic, feminine khaki dress. A piece like this is perfect to keep in your wardrobe for those days you don’t know what to wear. This dress will always be a winner.
Yellow is a big trend this season, & a super wearable, yet dramatic dress like this is giving me life right now. You might recognize this dress because I wore it in a recent post (see here). The color, draping skirt, & the slit are all very OdlR inspired.
7. Lovely Toile & Botanical Print Pieces
Feeling so nostalgic for all this toile print. Yes, this classic print was popular for curtains & pillows back in the day, but I also owned a few Laura Ashley dresses in toile print during my childhood. I’m so in love with the fact that it’s coming back! It’s difficult to find affordable toile pieces at the moment, but these botanical prints are a huge nod in that direction. I absolutely adore the dress I’m wearing here as well as this botanical print blouse I’ve recently added to my wardrobe.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m working on adding more yellow into my wardrobe & this dress is one of my new favorite pieces. My first reaction upon seeing this dress online, was to order it in a dreamy white shade, but when I saw it also came in yellow, I decided to take a chance & dive right in.
In my previous post, I talked about wanting to maybe do a full green & yellow look. I did not have an idea in mind for this post yet, but then I randomly one day tried this combination on together & it felt so right. The dramatic skirt of this dress in contrast with the green, more structured & formal feel of the jacket overtop is a look I’m totally in to at the moment. One thing I really needed for this outfit to truly come together was a great pair of green + yellow earrings. These BaubleBar earrings blinged out in lemons were an absolutely perfect match.
My Green + Yellow Look
This amazing bright yellow dress is definitely the star of the show. I know you will see me wearing this so much over the coming months because of how stunning it is on it’s own. For this post, I layered this vintage green houndstooth jacket with gold buttons (similar here), but wrapped the belt of the dress over it for a more flattering silhouette. A dress like this will look great with flats in the summer, but I loved how these ivory rounded toe, chunky heels complimented this look perfectly. For a bit of texture, I wore my classic, mini Chanel bag which tied in with the darker tones of my jacket.
This location was perfect with the green & yellow houses, but there was a salmon colored one right in the middle that matched my lipstick so well! I was wearing my new favorite: the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips Liquid Lipstick in the shade, Too Bad, I’m Bad. Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are just the best. They last so long, wear so well, & feel so comfortable on the lips. You know I love my affordable products, but I will say, these lipsticks are worth a little splurge.
I keep catching myself being drawn to the color yellow. Maybe it’s my subconscious wishing for more sunshine & warmth? Or maybe it has something to do with my lemon obsession I’ve had ever since our Italian honeymoon last summer (see here: 1/2/3). Either way, this color is giving me life at the moment. I’m slowly finding ways to naturally incorporate this color into my wardrobe.
What a fun & vibrant color yellow is! It has the power & ability to absolutely cheer up any outfit. That in itself is one huge reason adding more yellow into your wardrobe this year will be a decision I will not regret.
Ease Your Way In
A great way to slowly starting adding a new color into your wardrobe is to incorporate it in with the colors you already own. I already wear a lot of pink, burgundy, & dark green, so the yellow worked into this striped dress makes wearing this bright yellow feel a little less intimidating & a little more me. Finding an item like this dress is a great way to introduce a new color to your wardrobe.
It has been just cold, cold, cold here in Richmond. So while I can’t wait to wear this dress alone or with sandals once the weather starts to warm up a bit, I added a few extra layers to make this dress wearable in the current climate. I love the way brown & yellow pairs together. Black & yellow just seems a bit too harsh for me, at least right now. Brown & yellow feels warm, fresh, & soft. A very casual & wearable color combination.
This long, feminine wrap style dress in contrast with the brown leather jacket is such a lovely pairing. I wore this look with my favorite tall brown boots that I literally wear all year long. This cheerful ensemble just begged for a fresh face. I kept my makeup simple with some bronzer & a fresh nude lip for a warm & summery feel. To add to that vibe, I even wore my cute starfish studs that remind me of the movie, Aquamarine (if only they complimented me! haha). Seeing the completed look against this dark green wall is giving me mega inspiration to do a two color look with green & yellow! Should I give it a try?
