It’s been some time since I’ve posted here on the blog, or on my Instagram for that matter. I’ve been feeling some changes in me & needed some time to figure out exactly what they meant for me & my life. Don’t worry, I’ll be filling you guys in on what’s been going on in my head & heart soon.
But until then..I’m back! Not only am I back, but I’m sharing with you the dreamiest toile dress I’ve been wearing to death that’s under $20! Scroll to see more…
Now that the weather is starting to feel more like fall, I’ve been playing around with how to wear this gorgeous toile dress into the colder months. My favorite way has to be with a pair of knee high boots, a beret, & my classic trench coat over top. You could also wear it with black tights, heels, & a fluffy faux fur coat to dress things up a bit. Either way, you better believe I’ll be wearing this many times in the coming months. I can’t pass up this dreamy, classic print!
I asked you guys on Instagram a while back what your fashion dilemmas were. Whether they were about styling or shopping, I gathered a few of the best questions to answer for you here today! Let’s see if we can solve some of your fashion dilemmas…
Q: “Packing for a trip is always difficult. How can I be stylish without bringing too many items?”
A: Packing for a trip is definitely a challenge, but it can be really run too! My biggest tip for this dilemma is to stick with a color palette.
Think about where you are going & in what season. What colors will either go nicely with your surroundings or fit that season well? Sticking to a color palette of 3-4 colors that all go together will ensure you will be able to mix & match the items you pack for your trip. Also, be realistic when it comes to shoes. Shoes can often take up so much room in a suitcase, so if you won’t actually wear them, don’t bring them.
Q: “What tips do you have for accessorizing with scarves for the upcoming fall season?”
A: Wearing scarves is one of my favorite ways to accessorize during the fall season. They are so versatile & there are so many ways to personalize your look with them.
Square silk scarves & bandanas are my go-to’s for an effortlessly put together look. I like to fold two opposing corners into the center & then roll the folded ends together. Then I tie the scarf around my neck in a simple knot. This floral silk scarf is the newest in my collection & is under $10! Its colors will perfectly go with so many looks I’m planning for the fall season.
Long silk scarves like this burgundy one I recently added to my collection, are another great layering piece. I like to fold & roll the larger scarves just as I would with the smaller square ones, but then I will either leave them draped around my neck untied, tied in a loose knot at my sternum level, or tied in a bow around my neck. Unless it’s really cold, I like to reserve lighter scarves such as these for the fall & my thicker wool, blanket scarves for the winter season.
Q: “My fashion dilemma: How can I explore new trends without compromising my personal style/aesthetic?”
A: This is a tricky question, because certain trends can often clash with your style or aesthetic. I would again bring it back to color.
If you are wanting to try out a new trend, try finding pieces that display that trend in colors already found in your current wardrobe. Also, I highly recommend finding “trendy” pieces at stores with affordable prices so that if you don’t end up getting on with them, then at least you haven’t spent loads of money on them.
Q: “I love the prices at online shops like Shein, but I’m nervous about purchasing from them. Is it safe?”
A: The short answer is, yes.
I have actually been shopping on sites like Shein for quite a while now & 99% of the time I have been happy with the products I have purchased. One of the main tips I have when shopping on sites like this is to avoid items not worn by a model. I always like to see what something actually looks like on a human before buying it. That way I can see how it hangs & fits on the model & can make a guess based off the measurements given in the description as to whether or not it would fit me well.
I am no minimalist. I love to be a bit extra & definitely think more is always more. But if I lost everything, or wanted to start my wardrobe from scratch, these 61 feminine essentials would create a complete wardrobe ready for every season. That’s right! This post includes clothes, outerwear, accessories, the whole nine yards! I guess you could say this would be my version of a super chic capsule wardrobe. I watch quite a lot of YouTube, & funny enough, about 90% of the YouTubers I am subscribed to are living in the London area. What can I say, I love the way they speak?! They also have the best phrases & ways of saying things. I even find myself talking like them sometimes! Anyone else do this too?! Anyways, clearly I feel very inspired by these lovely ladies, & this look reminds me of a combination of them all. (Amelia Liana, Kate La Vie, Samantha Maria, Estée Lalonde, I Covet Thee, In The Frow, Fashion Mumblr, & Freddy My Love)
With exception of my faux fur scarf, the items that make up this London look are all items I’ve had in my wardrobe for years. I’ve been working on my creativity lately & have had so much fun re-imagining how I put together pieces that I already own. This process is so much fun to me. All it takes is a small window of time & a spark of creativity (or maybe a glass of wine) to start playing around in your wardrobe. Mix & match different colors, prints, & textures until you find a whole new batch of great outfits from your own closet. It’s like shopping without paying for new things. Re-imagining your wardrobe in this way really gets me excited about my clothes again. It makes me love putting on each & every outfit at the start of a new day. In a fast paced world where trends come & go with each new season, it’s refreshing to own quality pieces that last year after year. My bank account is surely thankful as well!
My London Look
As I mentioned before, this outfit was inspired by my favorite influencers from across the pond. Kate & I have the same gold bow mules, which are an all time fav of mine. She inspired my camel beret as well. The pink coat is a little bit of everyone, but mostly Freddy for her love of all things pink. My leather mini skirt was inspired by Amelia & Josie. Bright colors & cozy faux fur like my scarf are definitely influenced by Samantha. The one item that brings them all together though, is my beloved white top from H&M. It’s maybe my favorite top that I own & could bee seen on each one of my British babes. I’m also obsessed with how they say “H&M”, for the record. (see here & here)
I think that in just the same way that you are the 5 people you are closest to at any one time, your fashion takes on the same vibes as the 5 people’s fashion you are drawn to at any one time. How cool is that? Fashion is influenced by the people & things around us, yet is uniquely ours as well. Go out there & be inspired by fashion bloggers & fashionistas around you, but then make it yours. Be you. Fearlessly be you, & love the you that you create.
My houndstooth obsession has definitely multiplied over the past couple of months, & the proof is in this outfit! This classic print is one of the easiest prints to transform from day to night. I find I can easily talk myself into purchasing an item in this print because it truly never goes out of style.
The only new item in this outfit is my new tan croc belt. All of the other pieces I have added to my wardrobe here & there over the years. I thought this outfit would be perfect to share with you guys. 5 ways to elevate your look using items you already own in your wardrobe. Using these tips will help you to instantly look chic & effortlessly put together.
1. Pop Your Collar
I am all about popping my coat collars. This simple trick gives you that instant cool factor & adds a bit of dimension to your look. It also shields your neck & face from the cold as an added bonus. Look cool, but feel warm.
Belts are a big trend right now. They are that added accessory item that can really bring a whole look together. This autumn/winter, I’m loving adding belts to my oversized coats & sweaters to create a more flattering shape.
Whether you want to match your bag to your outfit by print or color, this tip is sure to elevate your entire look. Taking that extra 30 seconds to choose a bag that truly matches your look rather than one that just “goes”, totally ups your whole outfit. Also, changing out your purses on a daily basis helps you carry around less clutter & more essentials.
Rolling the sleeves of your coat, cardigan, or sweater adds a bit more texture to your outfit. For some reason, doing this makes you not only look more put together, but relaxed & chic at the same time. This tip is so easy to try out on the daily, so why not start now?
Curated outfits, like the one I’m wearing, are popping up everywhere right now. The biggest tip I can give on this is to stick to 2-3 colors at a time. Own a lot of polka dots? Try mixing them together to create a look. Are you a fellow stripes lover? Why not try a stripes on stripes look? (see mine here) This tip works beautifully with gingham as well. Give it a try! You may be surprised by how good it looks.
November is here & holiday season is in full swing. This time of year brings holiday parties & events as well as lots time with family & friends. Being the planner at heart that I am, I’ve already started putting together outfits for occasions I’ll be attending over the next couple of months. Doing this really eases any stress about what to wear or wondering if I even have anything to wear. Also, if anything should come up out of the blue, I’ll already have cute & festive outfits at the ready.
Thanksgiving is a big event coming this month. I know sometimes it can be hard to know what to wear or what to bring to these gatherings. On the one hand, you want to look cute & put together, especially if you are seeing people you don’t get to see everyday, & on the other hand, you don’t want to look over-dressed or uncomfortable. Here’s what I’m going to wear & bring to Thanksgiving this year.
“But What Would I Wear?”
It seems as though everyone experiences similar sentiments about finding the right outfit as the Grinch sometimes. (see here) If you know me, I always tend to lean on the slightly over-dressed side, but this year I think I have found the perfect look that combines function & fashion.
At the end of summer, when I started to plan ahead for fall content, I knew my wardrobe was in desperate need of one item: a camel turtleneck. I searched everywhere to find the perfect quality piece at the right price. Finally, I found this gorgeous top at J. Crew. Unfortunately it was backordered for a while, but it’s finally here & is indeed just the thing my wardrobe needed.
This camel turtleneck is perfectly paired with this Chicwish floral skirt for a flattering & feminine silhouette. You guys know I love a good silhouette! The classic cut of this skirt as well as the metallic thread that runs throughout the fall toned florals, elevates the look of the whole outfit. Not only does this outfit look good, it is also cozy enough to curl up on the couch under a blanket to watch the parade or a football game, take a post-Thanksgiving meal nap, or to toss an apron overtop & bake a pie in the kitchen in.
You can really go so many different ways with accessories & layers with an outfit like this. For me, I always love wearing my trench coat on Thanksgiving. I don’t know why, but it’s a thing for me. Then I added some faux fur for warmth & extra style. To keep with the classic & comfortable vibes, I felt that sticking to a neutral pair of ballet flats was the way to go, but this look could also be worn with a pair of boots for added warmth.
I’ve been completely inspired by floral cakes as of late, so I thought why not use some creativity & bring something beautiful & tasty to Thanksgiving this year. Now you definitely don’t have to make a cake, but let me challenge you to get a bit creative this year. Put your own spin on a classic dish, or just go the extra mile to add a lovely visual to the thing you want to bring to your Thanksgiving feast. Put a little bit of you into your creation. Not only will others love it, but I guarantee you’ll enjoy preparing it.
What are you making for Thanksgiving this year? Do you have your outfit planned yet?
