I am so excited to be merging my love of fashion with my love for florals! A great way for me to get in some floral arranging practice as well as experiment with different color combos that compliment my outfits.
I took a poll on Instagram recently, & so many of you wanted to see me styling some wide leg pants. These pink-y, purple-y pants are such a fun addition to any wardrobe for spring. Pair them with either a tighter fitting top, or a flowy top with balloon sleeves fully tucked into the pants. The trick to wearing wide leg pants is really accentuating the waist line. So have fun, be bold, & add a pop of colorful 70’s style into your wardrobe this spring/summer.

When it comes time to find an occasion dress, cocktail dress, or a date night look, my go-to color is navy. I’m a navy girl through & through. I love that it still has that glam, evening feel, but somehow doesn’t feel as harsh as black. In fact, navy feels classy, classic, & very feminine. Another great thing about navy is that it plays well with so many of my favorite colors & can be worn all year long. Some of the best colors to pair with navy this time of year are white, green, tan, & yellow.
This LND is the epitome of a date night look. Would you believe me if I told you it was only $20?! I know! What a steal! I love the high neck with the sheer lace combined with the very classy mini length. It’s not too short making it easy to sit in comfortably. Phew! The winning features on this dress for me though have to be the ruffle sleeves & ruffle trim on the bottom. Such classically feminine details making it a must have item in my wardrobe.
Cute & Flirty
A dress like this can easily be dressed up or down making it the perfect dress for any occasion. I wanted this date night look to be both cute & flirty. As I mentioned before, I love the color pairing of navy & green, so I wanted to add some subtle green accents to complete this look. My new palm leaf raffia block heels fit this look so well bringing a bit of green to the outfit. The raffia block heels also have a way of being both dressy & casual at the same time if that’s even possible. For a touch of glam, I wore my Kate Spade bright green earrings packed with a bit of sparkle. As I said in my previous post, I like to add my own personal flair to my outfits & a great way to do that is with a clear bag like the one I’m wearing. It’s fun to think about the colors & aesthetics of the contents of my bag to really complete my look.
OMG I can’t even believe it! My two worlds have collided in the most amazing way. I have a two page fashion focused spread in a magazine I grew up reading. As a teenager, reading through Pointe Magazine & dreaming of becoming a professional dancer, I never thought that one day I would be featured in that very same magazine! The article in the April/May issue that I am a part of is called Studio To Street. In this article, I talk about Felix & Flora, my personal style, & how that also translates into my ballet studio style. Thank you, Pointe Magazine, I feel truly honored to have been chosen for this article. (Pointe Magazines are sold in Barnes & Noble stores if you want to see the print version. I will link the online version as soon as it’s live.)
Now onto this month’s Designer Crush…
The Dreamy Zimmermann
Zimmermann is know for his flowing designs, feminine cut outs with dreamy floral ruffles, & the most figure flattering silhouettes. If Oscar de la Renta was my first designer crush, Zimmermann was definitely my second. Each Zimmermann piece is dreamy & iconic in it’s own way. He combines everything I love about feminine clothing & gives it just the right amount of edge.
Below are few Zimmermann images that I’ve been totally crushing on…(notice the sweater in the second picture!)

My love for ballgowns, princess dresses, & sparkle runs deep to my core. As a professional ballet dancer, I’m lucky enough to wear beautiful princess costumes quite frequently. In my normal life though, one of my favorite ways to live out my princess dreams is by wearing tulle. This dreamy fabric can be found in styles to suit both evening attire & everyday essentials. That’s right! If you don’t already have one, get yourself a tulle skirt to feel those princess vibes on the daily!
The inspiration for the title of this post came from the lovely Camellias behind me in the photos. Did you know that The Lady Of The Camellias was first a French book? Later it was made into a lovely ballet which I would love to perform someday.
Putting This Princess Look Together
I wore this amazing tulle dress to Richmond Ballet’s annual gala. Back in the early fall, I fell hard for this dress. It was a little bit more expensive then what I wanted to pay, & it just so happened that my size was out of stock. I kept in in my wishlist though just because I loved it so much. Then right before Thanksgiving, I saw that my size was back in stock, so I set my alarm for 2 AM (I had heard that’s when the sale was starting) & bought it during the Black Friday sales. It was a steal!
For accessories, I re-wore some bits from my wedding day. I wore my wedding earrings I got from BHLDN & would you believe that my headband was actually my belt I wore at my wedding reception?! It was so special to wear these beautiful pieces again. My pearl bracelet was a wedding gift from my parents that tied in so perfectly with the small pearls on my headband & my super affordable pearl clutch. My shoes were a pair of silver metallic heels (old, similar here) that were low enough to be quite comfortable to be on my feet & dancing for much of the night. I truly felt like a ballerina princess.
For my eyes, I wore dreamy pinks & cool tone browns to resemble the color of my dress. Really, I looked through all of my palettes to find colors that slightly resembled the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk eyeshadow quad which is currently at the top of my wishlist. Matte shadows in the crease, a little shimmer on the lid blended out to create a soft smokey eye.
I was not originally going to wear a red lip. It happened very last minute. Lustre very kindly lent me a gorgeous ruby & diamond bracelet to wear to this event (see photos on my “ballet” Instagram story highlights), so I wore a red lip to match the rubies. I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous to wear this bold red lip to an event in which I would be eating & drinking & talking all night, but this combination was incredible! I didn’t have to touch up once & it lasted the entire evening. First I lined & filled in my lips with the Jordana Easyliner for lips in the shade Sedona Red. Then I applied my favorite red lipstick, So Marylin by Charlotte Tilbury. That was it! I was shocked at how good it still looked at the end of the night. If you’re looking for a great long lasting red lip look, this is the winning combo.
Whether it’s prom, a gala, a wedding, or a black tie event, finding the perfect glam look is my jam! And who wants to spend a lot of money on a dress you’ll only wear once or maybe a handful of times if you’re lucky? Don’t get me wrong, you want to look good, & I mean really good. In no way do you want your dress to look cheap or not well made. But how do you know if the dress is going to be good or not when shopping online? I’m here to teach you my tricks. I’m a strong willed, dreamer who is determined to find great quality & affordable prices to create the perfect glam look.
Watch Out For…
Time to become a bit of a detective when it comes to finding the perfect affordable formal dress online. This time of year, most online stores have either a prom section or a bridesmaids section & that is the best way to start. At this point, I can browse all dresses, or I can filter by color, price, or dress length. That way I am only seeing viable options. I do not recommend filtering by size, & you’ll see why in a moment. Once I’ve clicked on a potential dress, here is my checklist to see if it could work for me:
Check sizing – First, I check the size chart & look for areas I know need to fit well. For me, I always check the waist size. Then I chose the appropriate size with the correct waist size & see if it’s in stock. If it is, then I check…
Model info – Most websites now have information about the model wearing the dress in the photo that is so helpful when wondering if the dress will fit you well. Usually the information listed contains some of her dimensions & what size she is wearing in the photo. If she happens to be wearing the same size as I’m hoping to buy, I look at how it fits on her & try to envision what it would look like on me. For instance, I have smaller boobs & broader shoulders, so I look to see if those things specific to my body would work in this dress. It’s also important to look at the height of the model to determine if this would be a good length for me, or if I would have to get it hemmed.
Is it see through? – The majority of the time, if I look close enough to the photos, I can determine whether they are see through or not, but if I have the option to watch a video of the dress (like I know you can on ASOS), I always take advantage of it.
The wow factor – I believe that if you’re looking for a formal dress, it needs some sort of wow factor. The dress must either be flowing, figure flattering, embellished, or have an interesting silhouette. Then I zoom in & inspect the details.
Where To Begin
My favorite place to shop for affordable formal dresses is ASOS. They do great sales, have amazing customer service, & provide the easiest free returns I’ve ever seen. They also provide video for all of their clothes so that you are able to see how they move, which can be make or break for me. I have no fear when ordering from them, because I know returning something is a piece of cake. Other great places I’ve found for good quality, affordable formal dresses are Forever 21, Chicwish, & Akira. As long as I go through my checklist, I always find the perfect glam dress. Richmond is finally starting to bloom! Yay! You all know that I love to wear florals year-round, but over the past few months I’ve been super into stars & moons. Feeling those celestial vibes. When I found this tulle star number (which is actually a dress!) for $30, I just couldn’t wait to wear it. Originally this dress was floor length, but the amazing thing about tulle is that it’s so easy to cut & customize it just for you & your body. I decided I wanted more of a tea length style so I could get the maximum wear out of it. Obsessed with how it turned out.
When planning this post, I originally thought I wanted to do more of a fancy, glam look, but decided to go a different route. I find this look quite casual, care-free, & really fun to wear. My wrap top (similar here) was past down by a friend & is in a totally unexpected color for me, paired with a fun pale blue heel, blue shades, a patterned headband, & a bold lip. Of course, my favorite light wash denim jacket makes the whole look a bit more spring-y. I couldn’t help but smile in this fun outfit under this lovely blooming tree with the sun shining on my face.
End Of Winter Boost
I wanted to take a minute to share a bit of encouragement with you. Each & every one of us are experiencing different seasons of life. Just like the winter we are in is coming to a close, so will each season of life we face. If you are in a trying season right now, be encouraged & know that this “winter” won’t last forever. A new season is right around the corner, so don’t lose hope. Keep your head up, wear something fun to lift your spirits, & keep on keeping on.
If you are in a joyful season, soak it up! Take a second to capture that moment in time & be grateful for the season you’re in. Whatever season of life you’re facing right now, be bold & courageous. Don’t let what’s happening around you crush your confidence or squash your dreams. You are fierce, beautiful, & your future is limitless. So live that way & why not dress that way too, & encourage those around you to do the same!
