I have been a long time fan & follower of Julia Engel of GMG. Her feminine, classic style has inspired countless women around the world. Last year, she launched the Gal Meets Glam Collection & each month she produces some of the most gorgeous & well made dresses on the market today. Though the collection started out with only dresses, she has also brought out jumpsuits, jackets, scarves, matching sets, & sweaters. I’ve even hear rumors of coat coming out this fall/winter!
Since their launch last year, I’ve acquired 3 of her dreamy dresses which I absolutely love to death. They are just out of my budget most days, but worth the splurge for a special occasion. (See them here, here, & in this post)
This post is all about my total crush on the Gal Meets Glam Collection. See the designer pieces I’m currently swooning over & find out ways to get the look for less.
Gal Meets Glam is all about the romantic florals, the classic & vintage silhouettes, & feminine details like ruffles, bows, & buttons. Retailers are catching on to her timeless style & I love finding pieces that feel inspired by her style.
This dress that I’m wearing I actually bought during the LikeToKnow.it Day sale. The best way to get the designer look is to actually get the designer pieces. Her dresses frequently go on sale on her site, but some can also be found on Anthropologie & Nordstrom, so when their sites have sales (like Nordstrom is having now – see my edit here), her gorgeous pieces also go on sale.
I sometimes have a hard time finding shorts that still have that feminine feel. When searching for the perfect pair, I look for feminine details that will help elevate my look & make a fun statement. Today I want to share a bit about this super cute outfit I’ll be living in this summer. Also, I’m rounding up my favorite feminine shorts on the market right now!
This outfit perfectly displays print mixing that follows all the rules I outlined in my Print Mixing For Beginners post. The contrasting sizes & common color palette help make these pieces a perfect match. Also, I love the silhouette this outfit creates. The high waisted shorts combined with the wrap top & puffy sleeves make that classic feminine shape I’m all about.
What To Look For…
When it comes to searching for the perfect pair of feminine shorts, there are a few things I tend to look for. First off, I don’t want them to be too short or too tight. I like my shorts to fully cover me so that I can even bend down without fear of showing more skin than I would like. This goes without saying, but of course they will also have to be high-waisted. I can’t comfortably wear non-high waisted things anymore. What can I say, I’m hooked!
As far as details go, I love these shorts because of the lovely floral print on display. Not to mention this is a Laura Ashley print which I have loved basically my entire life. I search for those details like a fun floral print, bows, or a unique color to make a statement & bring that feminine flair I love so much.
Self Portrait is a designer I’m totally crushing on at the moment. His designs are simple, yet so intricate at the same time. These are some of the most universally flattering pieces on the market because of how classic the silhouettes are. They are both feminine & edgy by mixing feminine lace, colors, & ruffles with mesh, structured lines, & showing a little bit of skin. His pieces are so iconic & sought after, that many affordable brands are creating their own Self Portrait inspired pieces. I’ll share with you what to look for & how to get the designer look for less.
To get this feminine & edgy look at an affordable price, all you have to do is look for the details. Keep an eye out for interesting crochet or lace patterns. Many times these details are in interesting lines or geometric shapes. Self Portrait is not afraid of color, but does some its best work in the most classic neutrals. Even this white dress I recently wore has very strong Self Portrait vibes. Finding these pieces in navy or black are a great, timeless staple to have in your wardrobe.
Customize Your Outfit
It’s your clothes, wear them how you want! This dress actually comes with a cute red collar attached at the neck. But when I was putting this look together, I loved how it looked when I just tucked the collar in! You can’t even tell! It’s almost like having two dresses. Also, I wrapped my cream silk scarf around my waist like a belt to put my own spin on this Self Portrait inspired look. Don’t let fashion or pieces of clothing confine you. You do you, girl!
Playing with different textures in an outfit is a great way to elevate your look. For spring, I love light cotton pieces, shirred details, buttons & bows, & lace or crochet pieces. But most of all I love incorporating woven, wicker, & rattan pieces into my looks for more of a classic, vintage feel. This natural texture brings warmth & dimension to an outfit. I tend to gravitate towards these lovely pieces on the daily once the weather starts to warm up. The easiest way to add some of this natural texture to to your look is with a sweet basket bag, but that’s not the only way to do this. Right now there are so many amazing shoes & accessories available to add some lovely texture to your daily looks.
What I’m Wearing
Let’s start at the top! These woven straw hoop earrings were a steal at only $7. They are so lightweight, & easy to pair with almost any look. Next is my new favorite top. This lovely botanical print top with ruffle sleeves is on sale right now for only $7! I’m so in love with this dreamy floral print & classic feminine shape. Then I chose to add this faux leather & woven belt (also on sale for only $7…I’m seeing a trend here…haha) around my waist to add a bit of structure & break up the look a bit.
The lace midi skirt is one that I’ve own for many years now. (see a similar one here) I love the contrast between the soft lace skirt & the structured basket bag. This particular basket bag is the newest in my collection & looks like a mini picnic basket. It’s small enough to be carried around with ease, but big enough to carry quite a lot with you. For a feminine touch, I tied my Gal Meets Glam Logo Scarf in a bow on one of the handles. Last but not least are my white woven shoes (which are under $30!). These beauties are so comfortable to wear, & I love the way a white shoe looks with a spring outfit.
On our first full day in Italy, we decided to venture over to Capri. We woke up early to catch a ferry over from Napoli (see about our stay in Naples here), which was filled with a few hundred people. The ferry ride was just under an hour, & our view out the window was incredible. This was my first time out in the Mediterranean Sea, & boy was it just breath-taking!
Once we made it to the lovely island of Capri, we started exploring. Of course, knowing us, we decided to walk up a small but stunning alleyway that led up the mountain instead of following the crowds of people. Let me tell you, there were a LOT of stairs, but seeing all of the cute homes & overgrown trees & bushes was so worth it.
One tip I will give to anyone wanting to visit Capri: go early! There were barely any people when we got there compared to the middle of the day. See the best sights before the crowds come!

After climbing up the stairs for about 45 minutes, we found the most idyllic spot for lunch called Al Caprí. The view from our climb was incredible & the food was some of the best we had on our trip. I ordered the gnocchi, & Ben had a pizza. We also had our first taste of the iconic limoncello, which I will say is quite strong, but great for sipping slowly.

After our delicious meal, we decided to take the funiculare down the mountain. (You can take it up as well, but if you can, the walk is totally worth it!) Then it was time for our boat tour. Neither Ben nor I particularly care for tours, we like to venture on our own, but I will say that this tour (Laser Capri) was really wonderful. It was cool to ride a boat all the way around this amazing island. The rocks & caves & cliffs were literally jaw-dropping. I had never seen anything like this in real life before.
A fun fact about Italian culture: The reason why I don’t have more photos of our boat tour is because I was kind of in a bad mood due to getting my feelings hurt by the others on our tour. Part of being an Italian (or so we found) was pushing your way through to get yours regardless of lines or others around you. They weren’t angry, or being rude, at least in their minds, but it just did not sit well with me. But don’t worry, we quickly learned from them & started following their lead towards the end of our trip.

Yep, you heard that right! Ben & I rented our own boat to ride around the island just the two of us. He drove while I sat in the sun & enjoyed the ride.
Well kind of…
The waters happened to be quite choppy that day, which made me feel not so well. We decided to find a spot to anchor, because I thought just getting off the boat & swimming a bit would make it go away. So we did, & we swam for a bit & took turns jumping off the boat which was so much fun. Also a bit challenging with the waves, though.
We finished our two hours on the water & headed back to shore.

Once back on land, I found a shady spot to sit down for a bit. After my brain wrapped around the fact that I wasn’t on the water anymore, we walked right next door to a little bar right on the water. This spot was a prime people watching spot. We sat here for the next hour or two just watching the locals vs. the tourists. The real cure for my seasickness, I’m sure, was the French fries & gelato with plenty of water followed by a limoncello. 🙂

Sometimes, the best moments shared with someone are not the big exciting spectacle of moments, but those small moments sitting by the water just talking & soaking in a day of incredible experiences together. We had a magical time together in the beautiful Capri, but the best part was that we were together. Through it all. Together. Hey, in (sea)sickness & in health, right?!
We took the ferry back to Napoli & Ben fell asleep while I edited photos. It was a very long day full of so many firsts & new experiences. I honestly feel like I grew a lot that day & Ben & I grew as it was our first day on vacation just the two of us. We work so well together & he is so good for me. Clearing any bits of anxiety in me with just a glance. Feeling very thankful I get to keep him as my husband forever.
After Capri, we spent a day & a half in Napoli before heading to Positano! Post on that coming soon!
Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have any questions on the exact places we visited or things we did. I’m happy to answer anything!

Guys, the semi-annual Sephora VIB/Beauty Insider sale is here & it starts tomorrow! YAY! (If you’re not a VIB or a Beauty Insider yet, sign up here! It’s free & easy & you can participate in the sale!) With that in mind, I thought I would share a little GRWM post highlighting some of my Sephora favorites in my spring skincare & makeup routines. This season, I’m all about healthy, glowing skin with a more minimal makeup approach.
Let me walk you through a typical morning for me…
Right When I Wake Up
First thing I do in the morning is check my phone. I know, I know, I’m not supposed to do that, but with being a professional dancer & away from my phone during most of the day, I do my blogging & social media work in the mornings & at night. I’m ok with that though because I love doing it. After that, we take our dog, Luna, on her morning walk. It’s so nice to get outside in the mornings & breathe in the fresh, crisp air, especially now that it’s getting a little bit warmer. Then, I make a pot of coffee, & my typical breakfast which is an oatmeal or nutty bread with cream cheese on top. I like to allot a good amount of time to sit, eat, & enjoy my breakfast while usually uploading a new post to the gram.
Taking A Shower
Once breakfast is finished, it’s time to get ready for my day, so I jump in the warm shower & take care of my hair & body with some really lovely products. For shampoo, I haven’t found a favorite yet, but I’m trying a few out now & I will get back to you. As for conditioner, on days when you need a little extra, the deep conditioning mask by Briogeo is just the best. My hair is loving healthier than it ever has, & I’m certain it’s because of this hair mask. They also make a spray on leave in conditioner with a similar formula that I am loving too.
My current favorite body wash (which I just repurchased during the VIB Rouge sale last weekend), is the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream Gel. It really does a good job of locking in moisture while also giving that really clean feeling. Not to mention the scent is to die for! Seriously, smell it next time you’re in Sephora, you won’t be able to leave without it.
Most mornings while in the shower, I use my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser to cleanse my face. But if I use any other product on my face in the shower, you can bet it’s the Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser. This is one of the best facial cleansers out there. I don’t know how, but it leaves your skin literally squeaky clean without stripping away the moisture! It’s like magic! Ben even uses (& raves) this product!
On last in shower product shoutout! I have just started using the L’Occitane Cleansing & Softening Oil with Almond Oil to shave my legs with. So far, it’s been amazing! I love how smooth & soft it leaves my skin feeling & I definitely see less redness & bumps from shaving irritation. If you suffer from those same annoyances, definitely give this product a try.
Out Of The Shower
After wrapping my hair up in a towel & drying off my body, I make sure to pop in my contacts (or contact in my case, but that’s another story…) before I touch any products with my clean hands. Then I apply my favorite men’s deodorant & it’s on to skincare.
My go-to & all time favorite morning face moisturizer is the Clinique Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer. This moisturizer works wonders on my skin. I have normal/oily skin, & this product gives me maximum moisture, while providing a matte, smooth, blurred, & perfected base to apply my makeup over top.
As far as body moisturizers go, I tend to stick to my Trader Joe’s Body Cream on a daily basis. On special days however, I splurge a little & use my Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. It has that same signature scent that the body wash has (yum) & promotes firm skin. Win-win am I right?
I have four stand out products for my hair right now. First, my Drybar Prep Rally Spray primes & detangles my curly hair on days I’m going to style it. It also protects my hair from heat products which is a major plus. On those days I do plan on styling my hair, I use a generous amount of the Moroccanoil Treatment. I apply two pumps, focusing on the ends, before blowdrying my hair. This speeds up the drying process while controlling my frizz in a major way. Then once I’ve finished styling my hair, I add one more pump, again focusing on the ends, to tame any fly aways & add the finishing shine.
On days I don’t wash my hair, my very favorite dry shampoo is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose Dry Shampoo. I’m obsessed with the way it smells & the amount of volume & life it adds to my hair. I’ve repurchased this product over & over again!
The last product I want to mention is the Ouai Wave Spray. I use this product when I want to let my hair air dry & form it’s natural curls. once my hair is at least mostly dry, I give a few sprays of this all over my hair to add a little bit of texture & definition to my curls. I also have this in a mini size which is great for testing it out, or even taking it away on holiday.
I then proceed to get dressed, which usually means trying several things on & inevitably making a mess to clean up. Then it’s time for makeup. I won’t walk you through my whole makeup routine, but I will share some stand outs I’ve been loving recently that are perfect for this spring/summer.
My first & forever love is my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. There is just nothing like this palette. I making my way through my second of these bad boys & literally loving it every single day! My favorite way to apply it is by mixing the two lighter shades & applying it all over the center of the face. It beautifully sets my under eye concealer & gives me that “glow from within” look. Another Hourglass product I’ll quickly mention is their Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light. It gives me all the bronzy, glory, goodness without looking glittery or chunky. It’s smooth & heavenly. Great for bronzing up the body too!
There are two mascaras that I have been reaching for lately: the Benefit Roller Lash & the Urban Decay Troublemaker. The Roller Lash is a cult favorite, & for good reason. My lashes look their very best right when I wear this product. I unfortunately can’t wear this everyday, because I have oily lids & this transfers on me. BUT I’ve never heard of that happening to other people with this product, so don’t let that scare you. Just like don’t let the comments scare you from the Troublemaker! They’re horrible! Idk, the formula works for me, it doesn’t transfer or clump, it gets the job done & it’s easy to take off at the end of the day! I’ll take it!
For lips, I have a splurgy love & a super affordable love. I either have been gravitating towards the YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stains or the Sephora #Lipstories Lipsticks. My favorites on the YSL front are shades 11 & 16. In fact, as of right now, I am planning on using a combination of the two on my wedding day! They feel like nothing on my lips & don’t transfer! Perfect for saying, “I do”. Now the Sephora #Lipstories range is probably the cutest thing ever! It’s so fitting that my favorite shade is a nudey-pink named, “Oui!”. Next on my list is a bright fuchsia shade called, “Pineapple Express”. The packaging is too cute with a unique, descriptive photo on each one. ($8 each & amazing formula!)
