Layering is no stranger to fall fashion, but seeing as though I’m currently paying off a wedding, I’m trying to be more creative with items I already have in my wardrobe instead of buying new things. One day recently, my creativity was instantly sparked with this idea of layering dresses. I immediately rummaged through my closets & started layering literally all of my dresses together in different combinations until I found at least 6 completely new outfits all centered around layering my dresses. It’s my new obsession.
The outfit featured in this post consists of a pink satin H&M midi dress with a floral midi Zara wrap dress over top. The way that this wrap dress was designed works so well for this look because the front of the wrap dress comes together with small buttons on each side. Once unbuttoned, it basically acts as a gorgeous kimono that adds some major pizzazz to this look.
With fall quickly approaching & schedules becoming more hectic, I want to challenge you to make one more big summer statement. Step out of your comfort zone & wear the loud red dress. I’m very content with my pinks & blues most days, but lately I’m feeling inspired by color since my trip to Italy (1, 2, 3), so I’m asking you to join me in making a summer statement.
I’m gonna be honest with you guys, I bought this gingham dress from Target way back in the early spring & haven’t worn it until just recently. It’s an intimidating dress. I mean it kind of looks like I’m bringing a picnic wherever I am. But you know what, I feel amazing in this dress. The big sleeves are just incredible & love that it can be worn on or off the shoulder depending on how sassy you are feeling.
I paired my already flashy dress with my most diva statement earrings, because, why not? These gold floral earrings are definitely one of the best pairs of earrings I own. I wore them last in Positano for our lunch at the Iconic Le Sirenuse hotel (see more here). The best part about these earrings it that they are so affordable! They are on sale for under $10!

Now, we all have that item of clothing in our closet that we are afraid to wear. I urge you to be fearless & put an outfit together using that piece of clothing. It’s just an outfit, so don’t worry, you can just take it off at the end of the day, but go out & rock it! Wear it proudly because you are beautiful.
If you take part in this challenge, use the hashtag #mysummerstatement or send me a picture of you fearlessly rocking your look! You’ve got this!

Words cannot even express how utterly obsessed with this dress I am. I swear Julia created the Jennifer dress just for me! This dreamy wrap dress totally makes me feel like a princess, which is exactly why I chose to wear it to my rehearsal dinner.
The wrap style of the Jennifer dress gives the most flattering silhouette. Balloon sleeves are also my absolute favorite thing to wear at the moment. They make a look so billowy & whimsical & I just love it.
The real reason this dress is so special though is because of the material it’s made of. It consists of the most dreamy, buttery silk I’ve ever felt. This makes it amazing to touch & even more amazing to wear!
One last reason why I’m obsessed with this dress is how it moves. It’s like a literal piece of art the way it flutters in the wind. This dress gets a gold star for twirl factor, that’s for sure.

I paired this dream of a dress with one of my favorite pairs of statement earrings. If you don’t already know by now, I have a thing for statement earrings & particularly floral ones. These tiered floral earrings are some of my favorites at the moment & are actually on sale for under $10!
As far as shoes, so many different kinds would look lovely with this dress. I chose to let the dress shine & paired it with my go-to nude heels. I love a good block heel because they are so easy to walk in. Sadly, the exact ones I am wearing are sold out but this pair looks almost identical & is only $40.

A basic (or even not so basic) white top is a woman’s wardrobe’s best friend. The perfect white top has the ability to look very clean & expensive (even if it’s not), & can take you from day to night instantly. It’s the item you reach for when you’re in a rush, but you want to look sharp, classic, & put together. Having a key pieces like this fresh & ready to go can free you of any stress you may have about getting ready or finding the “right outfit” for any specific occasion. The white top will never go out of style, so having a few options to choose from is a wise investment.
Finding Your Perfect White Top
It’s important to think of how you plan on getting the most wear out of your top. Do you wear skirts a lot? make sure it tucks into things nicely. Do you wear jeans on the daily? Think about your body & what length of top looks best on you & makes you feel good. A key item like this is one you want to be extremely versatile & able to play well with a variety of other pieces in your current wardrobe. Look for the details that suit your style & will compliment an outfit.
Take the top I’m wearing in this post for example. I’ve chosen a bright, white eyelet button front top with rolled sleeves & a sweet tie in the front. All of the little details of this piece make it stand out, & give it a unique look, while still being a classic white top & as versatile as ever.
My favorite white tops have a bit of structure. They are crisp & clean while still being soft & feminine. I find that the crisp, more structured look to a white top give the impression that it’s a good quality top, even if the shirt is under $25 (like the one I’m wearing is!).
Sometimes sticking to the basics can be a good thing. With the start of the new year & a new season approaching, you might be finding yourself, as I am, in need of a little boost. I’ve put together a few tips & ideas on how to un-basic your wardrobe that just might give you the boost you need.
It’s dress up time!
Do you tend to gravitate towards the same handful of “safe” outfits in your wardrobe? It’s time to mix things up. Pop some bubbly. Invite a friend over that you actually trust for fashion advice & get to it! What is it about those “safe” outfits that you love? Do they bring you joy? Confidence? Let’s try to find those same things you love about that outfit in a new one.
Try mixing stripes or gingham with florals this season. If this seems like a scary task, read my Print Mixing For Beginners post, or check out Adorn Yourself Accordingly for some major inspo! I also have a Pinterest board dedicated to print mixing outfit inspiration you can check out here.
Add a red lip to one of your go-to looks
Throw on that go-to outfit that you love & feel good in, then add a pop of color to your lips! What a fun & simple way to shake things up. My fav red lipsticks are Milani Matte Iconic & Marc Jacobs So Rouge.
Pair with some unexpected shoes
Add a heel to a casual look, or a pop of color to a more neutral outfit. It’s easy to stick to the basics when it comes to shoes, but I find statement shoes (even a pair or embellished or fancy flats) can really take an outfit to the next level.
Style your hair differently.
This can be as simple as parting your hair in a different place! I love playing with a deep side part, to a normal side part, to an almost middle part. Such an easy way to mix it up. Or, with spring & summer on the horizon, if you tend to “fix” your hair everyday, go for a more natural look every once in a while. Find ways to improve your ponytail like with invisibobbles, bows, or scarves. These subtle changes make a huge difference in the long run.
What to invest in this season
A classic trench coat has been the best investment piece I’ve ever owned. I literally wear mine in every season, but it gets the most wear during the spring. Florals look amazing underneath a piece like this. (& you know that’s all I am wanting to wear right now!) It’s that perfect item that looks so smart when layered over literally any outfit. A classic piece everyone should own. There are also versions out there that help you make a wardrobe basic, un-basic. Look for one in a different color like pink, white, or blue, or find one with just a little more detail or flare to give it an extra edge.
One of my favorite ways to really make an outfit pop is with statement earrings. These are EVERYWHERE right now, so they shouldn’t be hard to get your hands on a pair or four. Pairs catching my eye recently are typically ones with big structured flowers. I mean what’s not to love, am I right?!
All I am wanting to wear on my feet right now are embroidered shoes. I even have a pair that I’m potentially wearing for my wedding reception shoes (sneak peek here). Needless to say, I love them. They are big right now, & a brilliant way to un-basic your day-to-day outfits.
Straw bags are trending again this spring summer (yay!), & are a great way to add texture to your #ootd. They come in all different shapes, styles, colors, & price points, making it easy to find the one that works for you. If you don’t already have one, this item is a spring/summer must-have.
